S'mores Bar!

Tamera, on October 28, 2019 at 4:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
Our venue has a fire pit and I was planning on doing a smores bar at the reception for guests. I'm planning to get the classics (chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallow), but also mix in some fun stuff (pb cups, mint chocolate, white chocolate, etc.). But I have no idea what quantities to buy. I am estimating 120-150 guests.
Has anyone done something similar? What amounts of these items did you purchase/use? Did guests use it/enjoy it?

The easiest thing I can say is that you should buy like people are getting 2 s'mores, each. It's not easy to deduce who might want what, but my next bit of advice is not to go overboard on options. Give people 1 - 3 'sandwich' options and 2 - 4 'inside' options. This way it cuts down on cost and people aren't too overwhelmed. People are going to want to experiment with different things there, but ultimately I'd get a bit more on the 'classic' side of things as that might be people's go-to for that sort of thing.

Also, throwing my hat in the ring for things you didn't mention...

Fudge Stripe Cookies are a great replacement or addition to Graham Crackers, as an option.

Cookies & Cream Hershey's chocolate is amazing, too.

I don't have any help with amounts as we're hiring a vendor for this, but I know that the guests I've told about our s'mores bar are really excited. Maybe you can search for a s'mores bar vendor and see if they can help you with purchase amounts?

I love a s'mores bar! I went to one wedding where they had one and it was so fun. I think it's a great idea! they put the items in pretty glass jars. It looked nice and it was practical!

I found this article about information for desserts. They say plan for about 75% of guests to have a late night treat. Base how much you buy on how many you can make from the ingredients (ex. if you have enough graham crackers in 1 box to make 35 smore's, you know you'll need at least 35 pieces of chocolate and 35 marshmallows).

Expect 75% of your guest will partake so lets say 100 (rounded if using 135)

So you need enough for 2 each. (200 pieces each)

Box Graham crackers - 35 pieces - need 6 boxes (rounded up 5.7)

Marshallows- 12-15 bag large marshallows- 13 bags (if 15 per bag)

Chocolate- depends on how you are buying this.

Just use formula to get 200 pieces.

the extra things use any # to get an additional 200 pieces together so 40 Mint chocolate, 50 white chocolate, 50 PB, 60 of other items)

    Hope this helps

What a great idea!! i would make sure there is at least one candy bar per estimated guest. which would probably equal to two smores for one person. better to have too much than not enough! even if you run out of chocolate and/or crackers people will just roast the marshmallows Smiley smile

That sounds like a good plan! Definitely extra marshmallows, because they can be eaten on their own.

We did a s'mores bar and it was a hit, everyone loved it! It was part of our dessert table which also consisted of hershey kisses (kisses from the bride and groom) and donuts. We bought 2 bags of the regular sized marshmallows, 3 big bags of the fun size hershey bars and 2 big boxes of graham crackers. We had a little less than half of everything left over but we also had the donuts and stuff too. I used all the leftovers to make s'mores kits for the trick or treaters, also a hit!
