S'more Bar Dreams crushed? :'(

SoontoBeMrsBatdorf, on January 7, 2016 at 7:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

I've wanted a s'more Bar at my reception since I first saw one on pinterest. I was so excited and knew it had to be at my reception. Now that we have our venue and they don't allow open flames it's looking as if my dreams of a s'more Bar are crushed. Has anyone ever done this without flames? The only thing I can come up with is maybe having two different chocolate fountains but then the marshmellow won't be toasted so I know it won't be the same. I'm so sad Smiley sad

No open flame is kind of an odd rule. Does that include candles?

The only thing I can think of would be having some hot plates to toast the marshmallows over. Otherwise you may be out of luck.

Is there any place for a fire pit outside or anything?

Maybe you could add this to another wedding event maybe a couples shower or a after wedding party

No open flames of any kind? I've seen ones on pinterest where they roast them over tea lights or larger candles, would that work? That's a bummer. We had a s'mores bar and everyone had a great time with it.

I've read that if you toast them over sterno cans, they taste like sterno anyway.

I know it's not the same but maybe you could give them as favors instead?

Maybe you can do an ice cream or popcorn bar instead? I know it's kind of apples to oranges, but those are both fun, too!

Also, FWIW, chocolate fountain beats smores any day in my book.

Mine has a "no open flame" policy. And candles just need to be In votives BUT my venue does offer a smores bar option that they provide. Have u asked to see if they have that option available?

No open flame is pretty common, at least around here. All but one venue I looked at wouldn't allow candles of any kind (and I don't really even know about that place, just that it didn't say no on their site). They don't want their building burning down if people get drunk and knock them over and also it's a liability on them. If someone would get hurt it would be a nightmare for them. So many people get excited for things like this or an exit with sparklers and often they aren't allowed.

They said if we were using tea light candles the candles have to be in atleast 1 inch of water. I'm not sure if I can make that work or not. I totally understand the rule just was pretty bummed when I realized what that ment for the s'more bar. I like the idea of adding it to a different wedding event though! Maybe I'll see if my MOH would be ok with me adding it to the bridal shower (and paying for it of course) or maybe add it to an after party. I have thought about the favors idea!

No open flames is pretty standard in many of our venues. The only exceptions are Unity candles and they need to be extinguished as soon the ceremony is over, by an employee.

I'd do them as favors; no chocolate fountains please. It seems like a great idea but by the fourth person it is a gigantic freaking mess.
