Smoke Bombs

Alyssa, on November 9, 2018 at 5:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
Has anyone used the colored smoke bombs before? I bought one of every color and they came today, and I’m just curious what everyone’s experience is with them? I watched multiple videos on them and read a lot of reviews but i want to know if any of you guys have dealt with them? My intention is for each of my bridesmaids to hold on high up in one of thier hands while the smoke goes when my officiant says “you may kiss the bride” because.. it’s fun and pretty and we’re a cliche same sex couple.😂 Thoughts?

That sounds like an amazing idea!! I would maybe do a test run with one of them just to make sure it doesn’t stain the hands of who is holding it or get on your wedding attire if there is wind!

I don’t have any experience with these but I had to stop by and say that I laughed out loud at your picture. I love how you drew your stick figure wedding party with their hand on their hips Smiley smile I love your idea, think it’s very original, and really hope it works as you are imagining. Good luck!!

I have no experience with this. I definitely think you should do a test run! But I so love this idea! Congratulations!

Your biggest issue is going to be wind. If it blows the wrong way all your guests will have smoke in their faces.

We used them for our wedding pictures. I dont know if that would work for the whole bridal party. They produce a ton of smoke for well over a minute and they can get really hot as well so they'd want to have something between their hand and the smoke bomb. We smoked out a good area of open forest with just one for our pictures and it went for about 90 seconds. Any guests with asthma may have real issues with that many at once. For ours, my mom had to wave them around for us to get any good pictures, my husband and I didn't hold them ourselves. I'd say do a test run bc they are hard to open (we even had one dud doing our pictures) and get a good idea of what you're in for with them.

They do get very hot. And people should be aware that they need to be very careful to keep the bombs themselves ( due to heat generated) away from synthetic polyester and other imitation silk fabrics, which are made from petroleum, and like any oil or gasoline, are flammable at very low temperatures, especially filmy, lacy, or veiling fabrics, which allow unlimited air supply to burning fabric. Some states or counties, and many insurance companies used by vendors absolutely do not allow them to be used, so do check before investing money in them. They can be manufactured in my state, but not used here. And last I knew, in MA and some other states, it is illegal to use any thermal device without a permit, and to use any smoke producing device, any place, any time, near a gathering of people. So while checking on special effects, find out. I think one reason many people go to dry ice and similar fogs, is the easier time legally. I did not check where you ate from, but most southern and western states that do not have fire problems, have fewer regulations, or did before terrorism laws.

I have not used them yet.... but we plan to use them for some pictures after our ceremony! They look great in pictures!! Honestly that sounds like an amazing idea to use them like that. Would make for a really cool picture! You could maybe test run it before hand like at the rehersal? Idk how expensive they are to do that or if you think that defeats the “surprise”.. just a thought though! If it works out the way you plan that literally sounds like an amazing idea! Love it!!

Have not used, but think if your venue allows it, that could be really great! Obviously with something like that, check with your venue. But if they give it the ok, maybe put together a test run just to get the hang of it. Smiley smile

A cousin ( my godchild) who wanted either smoke canisters or stage fog, discovered regulations here were much more restrictive than her Wyoming home where she originally planned to marry. They ended up using crossed uplighting, wireless, in colors, on the ground, for their sendoff. With beams set low, couple was bathed in converging colors of lights, about 8ft further on either side of path, 4 more. And they did a little 1 minute waltz for pictures in the converging spotlights gorgeous pictures. Not cheap, about $250. But no fees to venue to attach electrical things, no extra insurance as with smoke bombs, no permits. Battery pack. She got her referral from a family friend who used the Aurora Borealis as her theme in her wedding, and had a dark wall with some glitter, cloth backdrop, and moving uplights. I emailed her, this is where their stuff came from. Fixed point converging upwards spotlights are a Vintage Hollywood thing. https://www.rentmywedding.com/Wireless-Uplighting . If smoke bombs do not look feasible. Their dance, brief but with their changing body positions, in about a 10' area, great photos. Just a thought.
