Smelly burlap

I bought some burlap table runners from a resale site and they have an odor. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice on trying to clean them or should I chuck them and suck up the loss?

Burlap is smelly though. It moulds really easily.

I've heard that spraying things with vodka removes smells (it's odor-less and the alcohol kills bacteria)
