Smear proof lipstick?

Aleah, on September 16, 2019 at 12:50 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 3 36
So I am doing my own makeup for my wedding, just can’t afford to have it done professionally and I don’t trust the cheap local makeup places nearby since they always recommend the wrong shade of foundation 😂
Went to Sephora with my fam and got all the makeup I’ll need. It was 221$ which is 250$ less than the professional makeup artist.
I specifically asked for smear proof lipstick since well, I need it to last all day and not get on my FH when we kiss, and not to get on my teeth or etc,. She recommended Urban Decay Vice Matte lipstick in the shade “Backtalk”. I did try it on there but I did not have my FH to kiss and I didn’t even think to see if it smeared, just trusted it wouldn’t. Now I am practicing makeup and realized it smears easily, infact it all came off after eating one piece of pizza at a birthday party.
How do I smear proof it? Is there anything I can put on it? The lipstick was expensive itself so I really want to use it.
Another question, how to lessen the appearance of lines in my lips, the matte lipstick makes them stand out somewhat and I just don’t like that! I’m find with some but I don’t know it looks dry? I can’t do any expensive treatments or anything like that. But I’m up for ideas.

You can return it to Sephora and try a lip stain.

I did a lip stain for my wedding (YSL lipstain) and did a setting spray on top and letting it dry completely before eating or drinking. I had to use a ton of makeup remover to get it off but it stayed really well

I would for sure do a lip stain. Those are like magic. My mom is a mary Kay director and doing my makeup. They just came out with a lip stain that doesn’t come off at all without the eraser. I’m so excited to use it for the wedding and not have to reapply. Other than that for lines did you use a lip liner before lipstick? I’m your lips are dry you can exfoliate them/do a mask. If you use chapstick stop using that. Chapstick dries out the moisture in lips. That’s why you always have to reapply it. Some companies make what I mentioned for the exfoliation/mask.

I considered that but the closest Sephora is an hour away, I suppose I could get it when I pick up my dress a few days before the wedding but, I won’t get any practice time with it, is it hard to apply?

Not at all. If you’ve ever use a lip gloss wand or a lip liner you’ll be totally fine!

As a makeup artist myself the best tips would be to use a clear lip liner or the lip liner of your choice and cover your entire lip. Don't just outline your lips. Then add a long wear liquid to matte lipstick such Smashbox Always On liquid lipstick. For lip liners they have an Always sharp long wear lip liner that has a built in sharpener in the cap. Super convenient with amazing colors and great long wear.

I went to sephora and tried all 3 top long wear brands. This was the hands down winner. There is avocado oil in it so it doesnt dry your lips out as much as other brands. And it wears LITERALLY all day, during meal and drinks. Dorsnt come off while kissing.

    This was my winner.

Well I found a lipstick by accident that is smear/food/kiss proof. I work in a hot kitchen all day. It survived oil, steam, sweat, eating a burger and kissing FH. It was even still there when I got home.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche lipstick, that Jam(berry) color doesn’t budge and it’s not drying like longwear lipstick, it’s just that pigmented!

I use either Honest Co liquid lipstick (mattes) or thrive causemetics lip plumper/liner. Lawless brand also makes a liquid lip stain. I have Romeo in that and omg the color is vibrant. Hope those help.

I'm a make up snob and will only use more high end makeup. However, I discovered Maybelline 24hr is the best lipstick ever for staying on! It's a lipstain on one side and gloss on the other. Won't come off til you use makeup remover. Highly recommend it!

I’m also a makeup snob but it’s mostly because my skin is easily irritated. Did you notice any difference between this and your regular brands such as tingling?

Stila liquid lipstick. if you like the shade backtalk from uraban decay, go with Stila Baci. Similar shade, but stila will wear all day, no transfer.

No tingling whatsoever. The only issue might be dryness but the gloss end prevents that. I work a job where I talk for hours and get hot and sweaty and never had an issue of it coming off.

Good to know, thank you! I can’t wear Revlon at all but admittedly haven’t tried all drugstore brands. Sensitive skin is a bummer.

Do you have a Ulta store near you?? It's a lot like Sephora but a lot cheaper!! They sell all the high end name brand make-up at a more competitive price!!

Also, I can't believe it costs $400+ for a professional make-up artist!! I thought $100-$150 was expensive, I feel much better about it now!! Thanks!! I'm in Louisiana and it's between $80-$150. What state are you in for it to be over $400?? If you don't mind me asking..

Good luck to you!! Hopefully all these responses will help you!! I'm sure whatever you decide, you will look gorgeous for your special day!!

You got lucky!! 400+ is a bit pricey to me as well. Mine is 360 for me and my two bridesmaids hair and makeup. My sister is paying for hers so its really only 220 that I have to pay after the deposit which was not bad at all.

I use the kylie Jenner lip kit which is a liner and matte liquid lipstick and that worked like a charm. I also like smashbox liquid matte lipstick as I wore it on a date night wirh FH and it didn't budge a bit.

I used a Kylie Lipkit and it stayed ALL DAY. It didn't come off on me or my teeth or my fiance at all. I do recommend having super moisturized lips which I worked on the entire month prior to help.

I’m in North Carolina, Wilmington being the place that has all the makeup artists. Wilmington is still an hour away from me. So the good makeup artist that know what they’re doing charge 300-400$ plus traveling fee which is around 75$ and most of them will not do it unless there’s more people having makeup done not just the bride, so it was hard to find anyone anyways.
