Small wedding... Big ideas!

Natalie, on December 5, 2019 at 3:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Im planning a wedding on the smaller side. We are inviting around 60 people but we are expecting that number to be cut in half due to most of the family living out of state. Is it crazy to hire a DJ and caterer when your count is so low? How did you plan or how are you planning your small wedding?

If a DJ and Caterer is what you want then I don't see why not. I think it's something a small or big group will enjoy.

If you really want a DJ and a caterer then definitely book them. The pricing would be very affordable versus serving a wedding of 150 guests

I would 100% hire a caterer no matter how many people were coming. A DJ is not a necessity even for a larger event - but if you want one, it's definitely not silly.

We had a similar dilemma. Was only expecting 30 ppl due to a destination wedding. We decided to skip out on the dj and do something initmate since its such a small crowd. We booked a private sunset cruise that holds 25 ppl. Then also a limo to transport us and the bridal party there and back. We felt like the limo could give us that party feel with the drinks and music.

You'll have fun no matter what! You can't go wrong either way Smiley smile

You don't want to busy yourself having to deal with these things so hire someone else to do it, 60 people are still 60 bodies that need to eat and want to dance. The DJ can probably be replaced by someone who knows they can put together a good playlist and change the music whenever needed. But I would go with the food caterer so you don't have to worry about that and your guests will be taken care of.

We are having a small (50 people) destination wedding. We are having it catered. By keeping it small we are able to do a nice plated meal, rather than buffet. We decided not to have a DJ though. It seemed like a waste to us with that few people. Instead, we are creating our own playlist and will have it playing over the venue’s sound system during cocktail hour and reception dinner, then we are extending the open bar for another hour after dinner so people can continue to drink (and dance if they want). Then we are all hitting Bourbon Street to party the night away!
Having a small guest list can really allow you lots of cool options! And saving money on certain items that are not needed for a small wedding party can allow you to splurge in other areas! Small weddings can also open up lots of nontraditional and fun ideas! Get creative with it!

Big or small guest list I would still go for it. It’s tour wedding, whatever makes you happy !!

For our DW of 15 guests we skipped a DJ/dancing but had a great time! Booze, pirate reception in a wine cave, 5-star family style feast and a strolling accordionist who played sea shanties.

For our local reception, we had 50 which seems smallish but hired a big band and a Frank Sinatra impersonator and plenty of folks danced!
