Small engagement rings unite!

I recently saw a Facebook post that's been floating around in my feed. It's a picture of a girl wearing a small solitaire diamond engagement ring. The caption read: "If he proposed to you with this, would you say yes?" I was saddened and shocked by all the girls who said "NO!" See, my engagement...

I recently saw a Facebook post that's been floating around in my feed. It's a picture of a girl wearing a small solitaire diamond engagement ring. The caption read: "If he proposed to you with this, would you say yes?" I was saddened and shocked by all the girls who said "NO!" See, my engagement ring was a little marquise diamond, probably about .26 carats. I absolutely LOVED it, and with the wedding band, I LOVE it all the more! (To put it in my husbands words, he wanted to "put a crown" on my finger, and gave me a "crown fitted for a queen!") I remember back when I got engaged, people seemed so disappointed when they saw my e-ring. "Is this really what you wanted?" "Do you plan on upgrading it?" The best compliment I received was "Oh..! It's so you..."

I kinda wanted to make a "small engagement ring pride-post" for you gals out there that love their little rings but feel like society is telling them that a ring has to prove their worth. PS, you are more worthy than any e-ring!!

Quality over carat size. I'd take my flawless ring over a huge diamond any day.

Why can't everyone just show off their rings without them being categorized as big, small, or average? Why can't we post our rings without some sort of justification as to why it's big, small, a diamond, a gemstone, etc? Your ring isn't what your engagement is about and the fact that they are constantly compared on here is a bit ridiculous.

@Kathryn I honestly wasn't going to. When I first saw this I didn't think mine was small, but then I was scrolling through the thread and saw others posting pictures of their rings that were bigger than mine or the same size. So I thought "uh, looks like mine makes the cut?”

Okay I agree I don't think some rings on this thread are small. But I think part of the reason this thread is great is that small rings are often overlooked or never complemented or (in some cases) sneered at. I've never had someone compliment my ring. My family called it junk until I cleaned it up. And when I post a pic of it, it's never liked or complimented. Maybe it's ridiculous but it's nice to have a thread where people with smaller rings can say "hey! I like my ring! It's not huge but it's just right and it's mine." I find this uplifting.

I like that too Elizabeth! Its not the size of the ring that matters.

See this is why this post is asinine and counterproductive to any purpose this post initially had.

@Emmy yeah, one person posts a bigger ring and everyone starts thinking theirs is acceptable for the thread (like me) lol.

I am sorry if I offended anyone though, that wasn't my intention at all. After seeing others in the same "size" range as mine, I figured maybe mine was on the smaller side and it would be okay.

I agree with Emmy though, no need to categorize them by size. How about just by how beautiful and unique each ring is. That's the great thing about e-rings, they're all special and unique in their own way and no two are exactly the same. And most importantly, they represent something much bigger and more beautiful.

Here is mine. I get a lot of comments about how its unique and am I trading it in for a diamond... but FH did exactly what I wanted. He had my daughter help him pick it out and I told him under no uncertain terms, that I didn't want a diamond. I wanted a tanzanite.

@Everyone from page 7 and over:

The point of this thread is to be uplifting to girls who have small engagement rings and allow them to have a shot to show them off without fear of judgement. Size, first of all, doesn't matter at all. And size is relative. For me, anything less than .5 is small, while for some girls anything less than 1 carat is small. It doesn't matter. Some of these girls have gotten some really ugly, sad, and hideous remarks from their engagement rings. Mine was .26ish and I never got a genuine compliment on it other than my mother and MIL. So, before you post, take a look at the first few pages. We're all very excited to share our rings.

EDIT: I was typing so fast I had typos everywhere. Sorry!

@Jennifer: I love rings with other types of gems, other than a diamond. Yours has such a beautiful color!

I'll come back to post a picture later since I'm on mobile, but I don't even have a diamond as my main stone. My ring's decently small, maybe a 1/2 carat, if that, emerald, with two tiny sapphires on either side with little diamond chips on half the band (I hate diamonds despite it being my birthstone). Princess cut just because I like the curviness of it. I really wish the emerald was smaller sometimes though :/

Editing after looking at pictures because apparently I don't know how big a carat is! Lol

@JuneBride categorizing them as small is still focusing on the size rather than just liking it for the sake of liking it. And now other girls are insulted because your ring is the same size as theirs and they don't consider theirs small. So, not very uplifting.

I never understood the upgrade question. Why would I ever consider getting a different ring that my FH poured his heart into picking out???? Thank God no one has ever said that to me...I'm not sure I would handle it so well.

It's not the biggest...I absolutely adore him and my ring. I would be happy with a twist tie if that is what my FH gave me. It's about us not anyone else.

I'm actually excited that me and my FH agree about the stones and band...I'm actually allergic to gold so he and I decided to go super simple and go with a white sapphire and sterling silver.
