Small beach wedding

Brittany, on January 17, 2017 at 7:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I need advice on what is a realistic catering budget for 40-50 people. We are having a small ceremony in front of the property that we are renting out for our bridal party to stay at. Also the reception will be at that house as well. On a 10-12k budget but I think it's crazy to spend over $600 on the catering.. Am I unrealistic?? We are getting married in destin, Florida if anybody has any advice on vendors.

$600 divided among 50 guests is $12. I'd say it's not enough. Is that $600 including alcohol?

Omg!! I got married in Destin. I'll tell you all the vendors I used. I also had a beach wedding with beach house reception. For catering, we went with Big Red Truck. Their food was delicious, and their prices are very very reasonable. We had 42 guests and catering was around $1,000. For our planner, who literally provided chairs, tables, decor, linens, lights, wedding arch, beach seating and set up, and he was our officiant - Loughtide Beach weddings. Our photographer was Amber Fletcher Photography, we LOVE her. She's awesome and our photos were gorgeous. Our DJ was JC3 Productions. My MUA was Stacy Alderson. You can find all of these vendors on FB. Our day was seriously so special because of all of them. Our budget was about the same as yours. Good luck!!!!!! So excited for you. Destin is a dream. The water, the sand. So stunning!

Oh and I see your date...our wedding was 11/7/16 and the weather was absolutely PERFECT. Not too hot, not cold at all. Just the right temp. Mid to high 70's.

Is that just for food? Probably not enough

We are getting married on Vilano beach in Florida. We are having our reception outside. Our reception bill is around 2000 for 35 people. But that includes drinks as well as the rental tent and everything else. I would say 600 is a little low. But it also depends on the food you want too.

That seems very low for a catering budget. I would think that it would be at least $1250.

If you are having them just drop food off that might be a good budget.

We are planning a 15 item appetizer buffet with cutting station and a kids buffet of sliders. We will have 3 people cooking at our rental home. Our food service will be 3600 for 30 people. Our wedding location is the outer banks.

Yea just for food. We are providing our own alcohol. No bartender they can grab and get what they want.. This only being because majority of my family doesn't drink and it's such an intimate wedding we don't see the need for a bartender. Beer and wine is fine for us!!

Thank you Alicia C. Fir some vendor advice. That helps out a lot we are already paying deposit for the house Friday. I will def look at longtide for some info and look into the catering as well!!

I live in that area, catering is not going to be that cheap. Be aware that if you don't have a bartender, you could be held liable for alcohol-related incidents after the guests leave.

You're going to want a bartender. Seriously, without one you can be held liable for anything that happens after your guests leave your reception that can possibly be linked to booze. And you may think that your friend and family would never sue you, but if they crash into someone's garden, that someone who you've never met can potentially sue you. A bartender carries liability insurance. You want one.

I guess you can get $10 BBQ, but for guests travelling to a beach destination, I'd feel bad about buying such a cheap meal. We're having a destination beach wedding and paying $120/pp. That may be on the excessive end, but I do think you're going to want to increase your budget by a fair chunk.

In my personal experience, a bartender was not necessary for our wedding. As I stated above, we got married on beach right in front of the beach house we rented. We had a beautiful, laid back beach house reception. We had our planner set out all of the wine/beer (1 red, 1 white selection) and canned beer (Corona and bud light). We put the beer in tins, and our planner kept them stocked from a big cooler, full of the iced beer. We did koozies as our favors. The canned was necessary, as there was a pool and the reception area was around it. Didn't want to risk any glass getting in. We put the non alcohol drinks (tea, water) in large mason jar urns. Self serve as well. For our crowd, this just worked. I know that you're liable for your guests, but in our case, most of our guests were staying at the large beach house, or staying very close by (within walking distance).

I would suggest a bartender. I am having a smallish wedding 44 adults and it's costing me 140. It's money well spent when you consider liability insurance.

@joanj- the name of the beach house is Tacklebox. It was through Ocean Reef resorts. It's a main house and guest house. Perfect for reception! Good luck and congratulations!

Based on my experience the catering is the most expensive part. I'd guess for even the cheapest food, it'd be about 35 per person.

You have a 10,000 budget and you're spending 600.00 on catering?

    No.

And get a bartender. You're totally liable without one, and you'll use way more alcohol when people pour their own.

Yea I guess I was a little off touch thanks for all the advice.. Well our 12k budget includes our honeymoon too so that's where majority is going.. The bartender I am not too concerned about we are renting crystal palace through Wyndham resorts and they have carriage houses across the street from the house so majority of our guests will be within close close walking distance.
