Slow Spotlight Dances

Lauren, on August 14, 2018 at 9:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

What are some opinions on having all 3 typical special dances (first, father-daughter, and mother-son) be to slow songs? We are attached to our songs for sentimental reasons so we don't want to change them but I am a little concerned that it's going to drag a little. I do plan on talking to our DJ about cutting/fading them early. Do you usually do them in a row? Has anyone done anything different? We plan on using "You make it easy"- Jason Aldean for our first dance, "Cinderella"- Steven Curtis Chapman for father daughter, and "Because you loved me"-Celine Dion. Thanks in advance!

When I was married 40 years ago father /daughter dance played and then about 5 min in mother /son dance played , it was nice that we danced together . I also later on danced w my grandfather .

I'm getting remarried since my past husband passed away in the military. My FH & I are playing our song and my parents are gone and his mom is gone but my great aunt is dancing w him she's 102 and his dad will be dancing w me . So you can fix it anyway you want.

I think as long as you keep them to about 2 minutes each then it is fine. Some couples do them in a row. It is a matter of personal preference.

You can always have the dj fade them out and not play the whole song to make them a bit shorter. That is a lot of slow song altogether

Definitely recommend having your DJ play shortened versions -- 90 seconds, 2 minutes absolute max! Even Dancing with the Stars' dances are just a little over a minute, so take a tip from the pros! Smiley winking It is really painful to watch regular people slow dance for the full length of a song. (Believe me, I experienced it at a family wedding last fall with 4 individual slow dances in a row -- and the B&G even had a "choreographed" first dance [like, they practiced for months] and it was the most awkward 15+ minutes I've ever experienced at a wedding.) Keep them short!

We met with our DJ last night and since we picked typical 3-4 minute songs he said he usually just plays the whole thing... I wanted it shortened with my dad because its going to be AWKWARD! My FH just told me to suck it up lol we are doing our first dance after we get announced and before dinner and the father/mother dance after dinner to break it up a bit! I have seen this done a few times and really like it!
