Slow songs

Samantha, on July 25, 2017 at 12:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

How many slow songs are typically played during a 4 hour reception? I don't want to have a lot and continuously stop the dancing but I love my parents wedding song and would love to have it played, but of course I would then have to play FMIL & FFIL's wedding song as well. Just worried that between our first dance, parent dances and both their wedding songs it will be too much

I'm curious about this as well. I've tried thinking back to weddings I've attended and honestly can't remember how many slow songs they did.

If you hire a good DJ they will read the crowd and know exactly what to play and when... including when to play slow songs. I would just make sure you let them know which songs and they should be able to play when the time is right.

I don't know that there is a certain number, like I said they gauge the crowd, the last wedding I went to only played one and it was the anniversary dance so we didn't get to slow dance at all and we were disappointed.

Our DJ played one close to the beginning and two close to the end. It was just enough to get people out on the dance floor at first then wind down the party at the end.

I've been to a wedding where they didn't play any though, but that felt weird. It's one of those "we still talk about it and not in a good way" things

My DJ suggested 4-6 is a good number to pick out ahead of time. I trust him to judge the mood and not overdo it.

We requested quite a few because we love to slow dance and never feel like they play enough at weddings. Towards the end of the night the DJ asked me if I wanted him to play more and by that point the party was going good so I said to just keep things upbeat.
