Slip/petticoat

Kaitlyn, on March 24, 2020 at 11:36 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I feel like I'm going to have to take the online route for this, I don't know when David's Bridal might reopen (I know, their website says they're closed through April 1st, but we don't know what might change) or any other bridal stores I could go to in the current climate to find a slip/petticoat.

Basically, the skirt of my ivory dress is a bit see through and I need a slip or petticoat (don't know if there's a difference between the two) to wear underneath it. I think what I need is a "petticoat" technically, to puff the skirt out and give a bit of volume along with another layer to cover my lady bits.

David's Bridal only has white ones online and I don't know if the color is going to matter under an ivory dress or if you would be able to tell it was white instead of being ivory to match my dress.

I feel like I'm losing my mind a little here. I'm still trying to get everything checked off my list in the hopes that we can still have our full ceremony/reception on our intended date. Any help would be appreciated.

I think white would be fine under the dress. I'm sure you could order one off of amazon.

I bought mine on amazon for around $20. It is the same thing that David's Bridal had me using when I tried on dresses....only for a lot less money and I had the option of white or ivory. And it was here in no time. I ordered it on Friday and it was here on Monday.

What seller did you get yours from?

The color probably won't matter under your dress! I have the mermaid slip, and its plenty of volume. The ballgown slip was way too much unless you want to look like you're wearing a hoop.

Do you think a mermaid style, like Jodie linked up there, would be okay for an a-line dress? I found an a-line slip from the same seller but someone said in a review that it was only ankle length on her and she's 5'0", and I'm 5'5", and I don't want to take the chance of having to return it.

Here's the mermaid on a mermaid dress. It does add some volume - plenty of volume in fact! It's flat to about your thighs and then flares out. Honestly you probably won't need an a line shift - a mermaid should be plenty.

My dress is from David's bridal and its Ivory. My petticoat is white. I will say though, the petticoat comes folded up in a plastic bag. A worker in the alterations told me to take my petticoat out of the package and hang it in the bathroom when I take a shower because the steam is suppose to help loosen it up and not make it look so boxed and folded.

Is your dress see-through at all without the petticoat? That’s what I’m really looking to fix, and the skirt of my dress isn’t lace like yours so you can very much see what I have on underneath it. I think I found a good one on amazon to try, but it’s got the bands going across the skirt at each section and I’m worried you’ll be able to see it. I’m definitely psyching myself out a little bit here!!

I just realized mine has 3 layers. Now If it was just one layer than you can see how it is see through but can't see much through the lace but with the extra layer of fabric, it's not see through.
I'm not sure if the sections will show up through your dress since it doesnt look to be any "hoola hoop" wire it in, you could always try to find a fabric slip to wear over it?

Amazon, totally. I think David’s and other bridal stores are a total rip off for these type of things. I had a mermaid gown and got a great slip off of Amazon.0
