Slip dress with cups?

Kari, on May 20, 2021 at 11:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Does anyone know if cups can be put into a slip dress and if they actually do anything? Most slip dresses are designed to fit a bit looser, so I'm thinking you have to go completely braless and without support or wear an actual bra and there is no in between.

Your thoughts/experience/advice are appreciated!

What about boob tape. Good Lines is a really good one.

I don’t think cups sewn into a slip dress would look good. I agree with the tape suggestion.

No where to stick it to! I am considering the Reformation Cabot dress for my reception, but because of the spaghetti straps and lower than bra level cut, I don't think I can tape my boobs in a way that provides support. Boob tape would work for coverage, but I'll likely just use petals for that. I put on a bra underneath to just see how much shows and see if a specialty bra might be able to be worn, but I don't think so.

I'm a full 32D, and I'm on the fence about how comfortable I would feel going completely braless in this style dress. The dress is silk, and not thin/sheer enough to be see through, but undergarments do show if the material is tight over them. I want to keep the cut slightly loose and not too fitted because I think the style looks better that way and it will also be more comfortable when I move, but then I also don't have any bust support.

This dress is discontinued, so I found one on a resale site but its way too big. I need to get it tailored anyway if I'm going to use it at all. I just don't want to pay a bunch for alterations and then still not feel comfortable in it, and not end up wearing it and have a hard time reselling it because I had it altered.

I agree! I'm not sure tape will work (see my post above showing the dress), but appreciate the feedback about the cups.

You’d be surprised! Check out some videos online, Kit Undergarments or Skims I think have examples. If tape can hold Kim K up, I think you should be good! Maybe a bit of practice.

Perhaps a full bodice, non-lace bustier? If it supports you while dancing, then I think any boning bumps are fine and can be further lessened during dress alterations. You want to feel both beautiful and comfortable, right? Skims, Nordstrom, and Spanx? have strapless, backless options that extend down to briefs or shorts. Good luck.

Most cups really only pad the nipples and don’t offer actual support, especially if you are a C cup or larger. Have you tried sticky bras? Therabbitbra.com is supposed to be designed for that type of dress/support for larger cup sizes.

I can’t imagine how tape would work and stay hidden. Celebrities have more access ($$ ) to a wider range of products that they don’t tell you about.

There is no way to tape in a way where the tape doesn't show because of the cut of the dress. I don't doubt that tape can hold, but I don't want it to show, and you need width around the breast (but not under it) to tape to in order to defy gravity. This dress doesn't allow for that.

Another option is go to a custom lingerie shop in your area and ask what they suggest.

I don't see a vertical tape method working because the straps are so thin. I can cover my breast in tape, but it won't provide lift because I cannot place the tape up high enough above my breast to pull it up without the tape being visible. In the video, the dress she is wearing is a deep plunge but has thicker straps. Here's an example of the same dress (different color) on swimsuit model Kara Del Toro. Larger breasts = need to size up = dress doesn't fit as flat to chest. I'm going for alterations next week so will ask the seamstress what she thinks I can do! And taping might feel a bit more doable when the dress isn't so big.

What appeals to me about the dress is that its not too tight and moves with me as I dance/move. I want to be comfortable, not constricted, and feel like a bustier will defeat the purpose of having a second dress for eating and dancing.

Finally found a video that shows a taping strategy that might actually work!

Style #1 shown here, where the tape crosses in an X under the breasts right over the xiphoid process. This is the best boob tape video I have found but unfortunately you can't save it to a playlist (which is super annoying).

Thanks for encouraging me to dig!
