Slideshows during dinner/ reception?

Danielle, on August 23, 2017 at 8:19 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 9

My venue has three tvs in it that are usually used to play a slideshow during dinner & throughout the reception. They'll be one above our sweetheart table too.

How many photos is too many photos to have in it? They suggested 1/3 me growing up (including pictures with my girls), 1/3 him growing up (including pictures of him with his guys) and 1/3 photos of us together. Is that a good split?

The split sounds about right to me. How many...personally, after 15 pics...I'd get bored staring at the screen; but that's just me...

In my experience of wedding slideshows, people appreciate pictures of themselves and cute childhood pics. I would probably only do a handful of us as a couple and focus on the people there. Old pics of birthdays, family events, etc people will like more.

Thanks for the advice. Both of us were highly photographed when we were growing up and I don't want to overwhelm everyone with too much. But at the same time I don't want them stuck glancing up at the same couple of pictures on repeat.

Our venue has a TV too, and the venue manager said that an alternative to pictures would be putting your monogram on if you didn't want to do pictures the entire time. So that's an option too!

I think a slideshow is appropriate during that time of the reception. I'd throw some pictures in with the bridal party, family, coworkers etc.

I would do the slideshow at cocktail hour, kind of quietly on a screen. Don't stop the production and make everyone watch it.

Like @jacks said, as long as it's just playing in the background, I'd enjoy it as a guest.

I think that sounds like a nice split. My daughter is doing a slideshow during her cocktail hour/reception as well but is doing wedding photos of every married guest at the party. We think people will enjoy seeing themselves up there and it's a great way to honor all the marriages that have served as examples to the newlyweds Smiley smile This also allows her to acknowledge those who have passed (grandfathers) in a happy way.

Danielle, how did this go over? Did everyone love it? My fiance and I have been together for about 7 years or so and grew up in the same town so we also thought about having a slideshow play in the background during the cocktail hour and dinner but were afraid people would be annoyed. We wouldn't be doing a, "here, watch this!" thing. It would likely be off in one of the corners as just something for people to look at if they should choose to do so. Regrets? Tips? Would love to know :-)
