Sleeveless wedding dress for an early October Wedding?

Molly, on March 1, 2018 at 12:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 12

I'm getting married the first weekend of October in CT. The ceremony will be outside, but the reception will be inside. I'm not opposed to wearing sleeves, but I can't decide if I should plan on finding a dress with them. I'm going shopping for my dress tomorrow - what do you think?

At what temperature does it start to look a bit silly to be outside in a sleeveless dress?

Im doing strapless in mid-October in Baltimore. I asked the consultant if it was ok for a fall wedding and she assured me it was. I'm going to get a faux fur wrap though just in case it winds up being too chilly for me.

I don't think it will matter. You can have a shawl or bolero if you think you might want it. I'd go this route, since you don't actually know what the real temperature will be until long after your dress comes in.

Side note, when I went dress shopping, the salon was FREEZING. Both places. I was really annoyed that I had to take off all my clothes and stand there shivering. By the time I got in and out of a few dresses I had all but worked up a sweat. Those suckers are heavy and wearing one will keep you warm.

Also, drink. That will take the edge of a chill. ;D

I’m getting married in mid October in NC, so it’s a bit warmer here but my aunt is knitting me a beautiful white shawl that I can put on if I get chilly bc my dress is strapless. I would worry more about being uncomfortable than looking silly but maybe you can find something like a shawl or jacket that way you can take pics without it but put it on if you get cold

I've been in two weddings both in October in southern PA/northern MD. I had a shawl for both. The air changes around here after 10/8 and is chilly after that. Not sure about CT. Once you are dancing though I think you will feel comfortable. Lace sleeves are becoming very popular and are making a comeback.

I live in NY, got married 10/7/16, and it was mid-70's all day. We had an outdoor ceremony and I wore a strapless dress. I really didn't consider anything other than a strapless dress, it's just what I wanted, regardless of season.

In my opinion, sleeveless dresses are ALWAYS appropriate, year round.

it’s sleeved dresses to me that would be questionable based on season. Around me, October can be pretty hit or miss, weatherwise, and I wouldn’t want to be stuck in sleeves if it ended up being one of those unseasonably warm days

I did strapless in Massachusetts on October 6. With several layers on the dress plus a long-line bra and a crinoline, it was quite warm enough!

I got married in NJ, 10/19/17, my dress was sleeveless and backless. It was also very warm on my wedding day. I think the weather is still somewhat unpredictable then, and strapless would be fine, just be prepared that it could be on the colder side.

I think in most parts of the US you can go either way for October. You'll probably want a wrap of some description if you go sleeveless, but I don't at all think you must narrow your search to just dresses with sleeves. Are you going dress hunting soon?

I got married the first weekend of October in PA and wore a strapless dress. I bought a wrap just in case but even though it was damp and low 60's I didn't use it at all because the dress/dancing/drinking kept me so warm.
