Skype wedding

Melina, on March 22, 2020 at 8:38 PM Posted in Texas Planning 0 7
I am a bride in Texas whose wedding was set for March 28th. That’s obviously not happening anymore but my fiancé and I would still really love to get married on that day as it does hold some significance to us. We live near Dallas and our officiant lives in Houston and traveling isn’t obviously not a great option at the moment so he suggested a Skype or FaceTime ceremony. My question is, is this doable? I’m having trouble finding information on whether you can do this or not.

Try out zoom (this is what all or most classrooms have been using) it’s got a large capacity. Unless you do Facebook and livestream

But is it still considered legal? That’s more of my question is the legitimacy

I'm sure it's fine. As long as your marriage license is filled out appropriately, that's all the government cares about... that and their check.

That’s what I figured, just wanted to be sure! It’s definitely not typical but desperate times!

Our original date was April 25th and our officiant said she could still marry us over Zoom if we'd like. We would just send her the marriage license for her to sign and then she'd send it in.

Just saw an article about a couple who had their ceremony streamed to their friends and it was just the two of them in their apartment and the officiant was on the stream. My mom also told me she read about a couple who got married on the street and their officiant was up in an apartment and married them from the window. People are coming up with fun ways to get married!

Sweet! I mailed him our license so he’d have it so hopefully ups doesn’t stop services before he gets it. Otherwise I think it’ll work out! I’ve loved seeing all the couples finding simple fun ways to get married and show what the true point of the day is! Of course I’m disappointed to have to postpone the celebration but the whole point was always to be able to have a good time with the people that matter most to us!

Just don't try this in most other states: "[I]n Colorado, Texas, Montana, Alabama, Missouri, and California, couples separated by distance are permitted to marry via webcam. The process is illegal in all other American states, unless one partner is in the military."
