Skype in remote family members?

Robert, on February 18, 2016 at 4:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Anyone try Skyping or Facetiming family and friends who can't attend? I am using the VoteMatrix phone stand with a tripod at my friend's wedding for the bride's family who can't fly in. If I put it in front of a seat near the front, should their faces on the phone be displayed to the audience so other family can see them also?

My friend who lives in Pennsylvania had his grandparents (in Georgia) skype in. It was more for the grandparents to be able to see everything though, so their faces were not on display for the audience/or any other family members. The couple also had a family friend sit in the front row and hold the iPad, so that he could move it as the bride walked up the aisle or as they recessed back down after the ceremony.

I think it's just a nice idea for them to be able to see the wedding if they're unable to travel. I wouldn't worry about everyone else getting to see them.

One of my friends was studying abroad in Ireland when our friend got married. She would have been a bridesmaid otherwise. Her step mom ended up skyping her on her phone and holding it up and she just watched that way.

We're planning an unplugged ceremony, but may make a single exception for FFIL to Skype, so his mom can see the ceremony. She'll be in the country, but traveling is difficult for her, so she likely won't be able to travel to Sedona with us. A friend of mine did this a few years ago. Her brother had his iPad hidden in his costume (Halloween wedding) and Skyped the whole ceremony to their sick grandfather. She cried when she found out afterwards.

I Facetimed my dad and brother in. My dad even "gave me away" lol. They loved it! Technology is amazing, but I wouldn't worry about putting their faces on display, the only people anyone should be looking at are bride and FH

My father is home-bound due to illness, so he couldn't come to our wedding. We skyped him in Smiley smile it's a great idea, BUT make sure to test the connection beforehand. We went to our venue to try their wifi hotspot and our phone's connection to make sure we had at least two plans that worked. The rest of the guests couldn't see them, just the computer, but DH and I could see them (and they could see us too).

Thanks for the comments. I will check the connectivity beforehand, and I like the idea of just having the screens face the bride/groom, not the audience.
