Skipping the Rehearsal

Mags, on November 15, 2017 at 8:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I would love to hear from any of you who skipped the rehearsal. Our wedding is 2 hours away and we don't want to "require" for everyone in the bridal party to have to book 2 nights just to have a rehearsal the day before. We are still planning to have a "rehearsal dinner" bit keeping it local. We were also thinking to have this 1 week or so before the wedding so that it can be on the weekend vs. a weekday. Thoughts? Did you regret not rehearsing before the wedding?

We didn't have a rehearsal ( although we did have a rehearsal dinner… Because we had a lot of out-of-town guest and didn't want them to have to worry about eating the night before the wedding.). Our officiant was the one who suggested that we skip the rehearsal, because we had a small bridal party and she said "everyone knows how to walk." I will say looking back that I think it would have helped if we had done a quick rehearsal just so that everyone (me) wouldn't feel as nervous about what was happening. I also don't think that you have to have the rehearsal at the venue per se, you could just get together right before the RD - at that location - and run through the ceremony as far as music and where everyone is going to be standing.

We rarely do rehearsals anymore; partly because our venues are booking Thursdays through Sundays....

Do a casual local dinner, give presents and thank yous and call it a day.

As for the non-rehearsal, make sure your processional is organized, with music cues, and get a copy to your venue coordinator and your DJ or musician and your officiant. (We make a blueprint for all our couples with all that info. ) On the day, all those people will know what's going on, can line you up and send you down the aisle, no sweat!

Lots of our venues will do a quick walk through on the day, and that works too; just make sure your venue, officiant and photographer know to make time for it (it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes, tops.

It sounds like our plan can work and we can save people the trip 2 days before!

I regretted having a rehearsal. I feel I wasted people's 30 minutes and caused them to rush when I could have said meet at the restaurant at your convenience. Skip it!

We did a rehearsal and it was nice but in hindsight totally unnecessary. it was not on the venue site, we basically did a quick run through before our dinner. you're totally right to just keep things local and stress-free.

I am planning on doing a quick run down with the parents, my and my fiance, photographer, officiant, and site coordinator. letting the friends and family in the wedding skip it. they've all been in many weddings and mostly their job is to walk straight down the aisle and stand there.

@Meghan. That is certainly a good idea since my fam and FH will be there the day before, I may need to check in with the officiant, but def worth doing if they are available!

Rehearsals day before are unnecessary. You all know how to walk, right? (LOL.) Our DOC gathered everyone for 5 minutes shortly before the ceremony and gave everyone the order to walk down and cued everyone during the ceremony to tell them when to go. DJ and DOC were previously prepped with the songs. Photographer was given the schedule. Everything went just fine.

We just did a run through the morning before. It worked out great to get spacing down, timing right, and the order correct.
