Skipping the Getting Ready Pics

Jen, on October 28, 2020 at 3:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 26
Has anyone here skipped the getting ready pics in your wedding day? I have the photographer booked for 10 hours. I think we are going to do the ceremony at 2, it’s about a 10 minute drive from the accommodations. Even if she showed up at 1 we would pretty much be done getting ready, so she’d probably have to come at noon. Starting at noon would mean she would half to leave by 8 and miss most of the dance and band. We have some good friends playing in the band so I think that part is more important. I don’t think I would miss the getting ready photos but I’m looking for some reassurance.

We aren’t planning on having our photographer do getting ready pictures. I just thought it was a waste of money. I don’t need pictures of me sitting around in a robe with my hair in curlers 😆 I would rather just have candid photos/videos taken by my mom or bridesmaids during that time and save the photographer for the main events.

We opted out of the "getting ready photos", as some short shots will be taken by our videographer, but it was mentioned that our photographers might take a couple as a courtesy.

We have our photographer for 8 hours. Since the venue is all inclusive, they have a bridal room but we can't get hair and makeup done there. We have to show up ready so my nephew who's a semi new photographer will be taking those pictures.

Yeah that’s a good idea. I can always have someone take some pics on their phone if I feel the desire to have the moment captured lol

Most of those photos are staged anyway. We had them because my photographer didn't charge by the hour, and he got some cool candids with me and my friends hanging out in the bridal suite. However, I wouldn't feel like I missed anything if I didn't have them.

We skipped them, I don’t think they were missed! My hair stylist took a photo of me and my girls in our robes and that was enough Smiley smile

We’re opting out as well. As someone else said a lot of those photos are staged, you can always pretend to touch up your lipstick or spray perfume for the picture sake! We had a similar time crunch issue and decided against that. Our photographer will show up in time for the first look and we only have her for 6 hours.

I’m just a little confused. You said you have your photographer for 10 hours, so if she started at 12pm wouldn’t she stay until 10pm? I am doing getting ready photos just because I want to create a wedding album and I know having those photos will add to the “story” of the day. I don’t think they are necessary but definitely up to the persons preferences.

I'm confused about your timeline for the same reason as PP mentioned. Was the 10 hours a typo? Our photographer took a maximum of 15 minutes to take our getting ready photos. She showed up right before I put on my dress, and took some pics of us and solo shots of my dress on the bed, close up of my ring, etc. If you want to have a few getting ready pics, I would have your photographer come near the end of getting ready. I loved the getting ready shots she took and they are featured prominently in my wedding album. But plenty of people skip them, so it's a personal preference

It's very common to skip the getting ready pics. They're a very new thing in the last couple years and many photographers don't take them at all.

Well in that case it’s really whatever you value most. One thing I know though is that you do not need too many hours of dancing coverage because it’s somewhat repetitive unless you have a special event happening later in the reception. I think if you wanted to do both getting ready and the band as well you could make it happen by having your photographer only cover 30 minutes of you finishing getting ready right before putting on your dress and then still get plenty of coverage of the reception. Like 1pm-9pm. Again, it’s really whatever you want though and whatever matters most to you. If you don’t think those getting ready photos matter at all to you then skip them and be confident you know yourself best!

My sister-in-law skipped them. She is shy and didn't want photos of herself in robes, getting dressed or anything like that.

I skipped. We bought a smaller package. No regrets. We did “fake” a few getting ready pics just before first look (my mom pretended to button up my dress). Worked fine.

I took all the getting ready photos with my cell phone. I found it better anyways since we got ready at separate times.

We have a friend who is starting off in the photographer business doing our wedding photography. So since she is a good friend and we don't want her running from my house to his because of distances between his and my house to get getting ready photos, we are just going to have a friend take them on their phones. My brother is going to take pictures of the bridal party with his iPhone. And I think he is going to have one of his friends taking photos on their phone.

We did them but I could've skipped them. Our photographer also didn't stay for the entire reception because we didn't really need hundreds of pictures of people just dancing, so she stayed for a couple of hours and then left. We also didn't do the tosses or other games throughout, so after we did the first dances, it was just the DJ after that.
