Skip the wedding favors?

Amanda, on February 18, 2023 at 8:24 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18
I'm thinking of skipping the wedding favors - they always seem to get left behind. Is this bad etiquette? I feel like they are a huge waste of money and there's so much other stuff to plan and deal with....

Not bad etiquette at all! Skipping the favors is a great way to save some money.

I totally know how that goes! My sister had koozies for her wedding favors, and there were so many of them that got left behind. Since she personalized them with their names and wedding date, it's tough to donate them or find somewhere that's willing to take them. My husband and I took a handful of the leftover ones since we use koozies regularly, but I know she had a bunch still remaining that she didn't know what to do with. Save your money and skip the favors! Guests won't even notice or care about not having them.

Skip them I always leave mine behind unless it's customized with my name. In which case I toss it at home. 😂

It s completely up to you if you want to do favors. Instead of favors at the table a parting late night snack can be a fun idea. Maybe coffee and donut or fries and a soda/water as you leave I d never leave that behind haha! Happy planning!

That's a nice idea! Thank you, I might consider that. Definitely better than something that'll be left at the table

I actually think it’s smart to skip the favors! We decided to do this, and used that money instead towards enhancing the guest experience. (specifically, we splurged for a tableside flambé dessert presentation).

The reception is your thank you to guests for attending your wedding. Favors are something I associate with kids parties. They are not necessary or historically traditional in the US with the exception perhaps of one or two cultural/ethnic groups. Even then, favors are usually nothing more than something to take home to eat. They have not been featured at the vast majority of black tie weddings I've attended.

There is no etiquette associated with favors. Many get left behind which is wasted money that can be used towards the guest experience of good food, free drinks, great dj.

While WW as a whole suggests edible favors, we have been to many weddings and other events where no one wanted them even when they were name brand candy/chocolate.

I wasn't going to do favors either, until I saw someone post magnetic frames for the photo booth photos. I though it was a great idea, and they were pretty inexpensive. But no, favors are NOT required and it is not a faux pas to skip them.

My fiance's friend had a small bag with two bottles of peanut butter and jelly shots, microwave popcorn, Tylenol, cookies and mints. Everyone loved them!! Wish I could have gotten away with more than one, lol.

I might do something like that for guests who check into the hotel. I went to a friend's wedding and when we checked in there was a small bag of chex mix, chocolate, a water, and advil 😆

I definitely agree that they're not a big deal! We just went to my future MILs wedding and she didn't do favors. Literally didn't even notice nor did any of the other guests so its safe to guess that they won't be missed.

Our "favors" were a fully-stocked top-shelf open bar, late night snacks and desserts, and an espresso bar. I've gotten SO many compliments about the late night options! I don't think people are quite as excited about favors. If you want to do something additional for your guests, I'd focus on the experience rather than items.

I am still going back and forth but honestly if you can't come up with something really good then I say no. We are having our big day in December and are thinking of doing ornaments with personalized thank you stickers on it and its VERY inexpensive DIY. Most people buy a new ornament a year so we figured it would be nice. We also are only doing as many as there are families NOT people.
