Skincare regimen?

Nisa, on October 9, 2018 at 11:19 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 21
Hi ladies! I wanted to know how you all are taking care of your skin leading up to your big day. I'm about 5.5 months out, so I have time, but I'm starting to get concerned about my acne. Problem areas are center of my forehead and chin. I never get large pimples, just a lot of tiny bumps, but enough that it's noticeable. I just use micellar water right now, should I use more? I know nothing about skincare so tips are appreciated! I know makeup will cover most stuff on the day of, but I want to get in the habit of a good routine.

Also, don't know if this relevant but I am on hormonal birth control (Nexplanon) though I think my acne was worse before i started it.

You have time to take up a new - or better - skin routine.

Have you thought about seeing a dermatologist?

Have you tried Rodan + Fields?? Their skin regimens are kinda pricey, but they are magic! There is also a product that has worked wonders for not only my skin but also my mood swings, fatigue, etc. Its called Balance by Alani Nu. Its def worth checking in to!

For some people, just micellar water works! My skin laughs at the idea of life being that easy. So I'm 9 months out and I've started getting monthly facials at the local beauty college ($30). The final 2-3 months, I'll probably go to a spa and get more advanced ones, but for now these cost less and are working. They also offer microdermabrasion, so I'm thinking about alternating with facials & that too. At home, this is my routine:

    Morning: Face Wash, toner, moisturizer

Night: Face Wash, toner, serum, moisturizer

I sleep on a silk pillow case (helps skin & hair), and take multivitamins for skin/nails/hair. I also use a thicker hand lotion every evening. I exfoliate several times a week in addition to face wash, and I mask on Sundays (I alternate masks depending on what my skin is doing that week). I try not to pick my skin, but inevitably do. I bought one of those face extraction kits, so at least I'm not using my hands to do it. I also clean my phone once a week so it's not getting bacteria on my face or hands as much. We wash our sheets weekly too & change bath towels 2-3 times a week. I don't wear makeup very often at all, but when I do I take it 100% off before going to bed. I also put Vaseline on my eye lashes several times a week at night to condition them. For my hair, I'm using Ovation Cell Therapy & hair masking twice a week. I've stopped dying my hair, I'm only getting trims every 6 weeks for health.

I know my routine is EXTREME. I'm just trying to look & feel the best I ever have on my wedding day. I've started working with a personal trainer too, so my body will match my skin & hair hopefully haha! I'd just look into an exfoliant (like St. Ives) to use a couple times a week and a toner & serum for night time. I really like Mario Badescu, and I can buy it on Amazon. Another option is to see a dermatologist. I do have RetinA for extreme break outs from mine, but other than that they weren't much help. The medical spas I go to (not covered by insurance) are more helpful with actual treatments. Good luck!

Along with the micellar water I would do a hazel witch toner to tighten your pores and a good moisturizer. I use a morning moisturizer with sunscreen under my makeup and then at night I use a 6 in 1 night cream for hydration and wrinkles. Every week I also do a medicated apricot face scrub you can get at Walmart. I love the scrub. It leaves my skin so soft and smooth afterwards.

I'd definitely see an esthetician before seeing a dermatologist but that's me. Regular facials can really help with natural products as opposed to medical treatments and pumping your skin/body full of chemicals. I do agree with Rodan + Fields though, they're products are fantastic.

I am waiting for mine to come in the mail. I haven't been sleeping well for months now and so fatigued I cant get any wedding stuff done and then I get depressed about it and am afraid to go to sleep at night. Since you've been taking balance do you believe that this can help with my problem? My doctor is stumped and just pulling medicines out of the air at this point and I just have no interest in my own wedding anymore it's so bad.

I wash my face with black soap.

I use rose 🌹 water toner.

    I use coconut 🥥 oil.

I take hair, skin & nails vitamins every day.

    I also do microdermabrasion.

I don’t know about your financial situation but check Groupon for beauty care places.

Hi Annisa! First off, I think you should opt to switch to a toner like rose water or witch hazel over micellar water! Micellar water is great for removing makeup, but often leaves the skin greasy and moist! I also highly recommend using overnight creams to help moisturize your skin and using daily facial cleaners to help reduce the visibility of pores while removing leftover dirt and bacteria! Do you currently use a daily face wash or moisturizer?

I have thought about it. My insurance situation is a little tricky right now (multiple insurances make things so confusing!) But this is definitely something I've given thought to.

Man I wish I had the dedication to do all this! I wash my face morning and night and lotion with a non oily lotion. Drinking a lot of water helps too! And after reading this I am going to start washing my sheets way more frequently cause I didnt even think about the 8+ hours my face touches my pillow....

My skin just breaks out a lot, so I've been able to successfully avoid major breakouts when I do it all the time. I'll switch products every so often, or alternate from winter to summer when my skin is less dry. I use cerave for lotion, it's amazing! The night time one is so light and not greasy, I barely feel it on my face. I'll use the SPF one on sunny days, but it still doesn't bother me.

Kayla, i would def give it a try bc everyones body is so different but at this point you really dont have anything to lose! Im 8 months postpartum and suffered from severe postpartum depression. The numerous medicines i tried either made me a zombie, gain weight, or just not work at all. Since balance, ive noticed a huge change. I actually sleep, im not anxious throughout my day. I can finally eat again. And my skin is alive again!! Inside and out i am alive again! I started Balance bc of the amazing reviews i was reading over and over. So i took the chance! I think you should at least try!!

I’m keeping my normal routine, which is:

morning: glycolic wash, vitamin c serum with hylaronic acid and vitamin e, eye cream, facial moisturizer, sunscreen, rose water spray

evening: makeup wipes (if I wear it), perricone blue plasma (which is similar to micellar), serum, retinol (I alternate these twice a week) , eye cream, night mouisurizer, oil, eye lash serum

    Every Sunday-mask.

Once a month-deep facial, with real extractions and microdermabrasion. Every other facial I get a light peel. Once a year I get a laser.

I drink a minimum of 100 ounces of water a day, do a light sugar scrub on my body 2x a week and spray tan on those days. Sunscreen, always. Moisturizer whole body as soon as I get out of the shower.

You should never use stuff like st Ives to exfoliate your face-way too abrasive. So not good for you.

I tend to believe the less we mess with our skin the better. I use Witch Hazel nightly and then put on cereve facial lotion, it's a non greasy and non clogging basic lotion. Every morning I put it on before my makeup, though I really try to wear no makeup if possible. I only cleanse my face when I shower every other day. I found cleansing it daily to be too drying and made my acne worse. I also take a hair/skin/nails vitamin daily and drink A LOT of water. I wear a hat to protect my face because I'm outside around 25 hours a week in the fall and 40-50 in the summer.

Roden + Fields is not FDA approved so I wouldn't recommend trying products not FDA approved before your wedding. But that's just me 🤷

Hi Annisa! Agreeing with some of the above comments, I would switch over to a rose water toner or witch hazel instead of the micellar water! I use a daily cleanser in the shower as well as moisturize my face whenever I get out of the shower! I also do my best to hydrate every day by drinking around 70-100 oz of water! I've been blessed with pretty good skin but I still like to take care of it as much as I can!

I think I will switch over to a toner for sure. I really struggle with drinking water, I probably don't drink more than 16oz a day (everything else I drink is soda or coffee). Thanks for the advice!

This isn't necessarily skincare regimen advice, but I used to get those tiny bumps a lot too, almost like a whitehead but not actually. What helped me is cutting back on sugar, for you it might be beyond that but I can definitely tell if I've eaten a lot of sugar lately because they come right back.
