Sizing Beads in Engagement Ring?

Ashley, on February 14, 2019 at 5:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hi everyone! I'm recently engaged and my fiance got me a ring that was already too big because I have really small fingers. We got it resized and it isn't loose past my knuckle anymore, but I still have an issue with it constantly spinning and the diamond falling to the side of my finger. I know sizing beads are the best solution for this problem, but i'm worried. Will it ruin the ring if I get them taken out? When the temperature warms up and my finger swells will it be too tight or does that not affect the tightness? Are they uncomfortable? I just want to be sure before I put them in. Any pictures of your beads help as well! Thank you!

I ordered some ring sizers on Amazon. They are just plastic cord that wraps around my ring, similar to a phone cord. They come in a pack with different sizes/thicknesses and you cut the cord for the length you want. I love it because it works and isn't permanent.

I’ve had good experiences with sizing beads. No damage when they were taken out and generally they don’t make it so tight that temperature affects it!

No, it will not ruin the ring if the beads get taken out eventually.

No, it should not be too tight if your finger swells a normal amount (ie like in the summer)

    No, they are not uncomfortable.

I’m guessing where the ring sits on your finger is smaller than your knuckles? And that your ring has a stone on it that makes the top heavier than the bottom? If so, I personally don’t think sizing beads will make it not flip around, but it could help. I find they’re a better solution for an eternity band that can’t be resized, than anything else. If your ring doesn’t easily slip off your knuckles, then the size is okay, and it’s more of a weight thing than anything else. But that’s just been my experience and I’m not a jeweler, just like shiny rings! 😉

I'd also recommend the ring sizers from Amazon that Liz mentioned. I'm wearing that now. My ring is slightly too big, but honestly, some days it fits differently than others, so for now, I like the temporary fix. Plus, keep in mind that when you get your wedding band, your engagement ring may sit differently on your finger and may not feel as loose as it does now. I'm waiting until after the wedding to make any permanent decisions, and I will have had the e-ring for 4 seasons so will know if there's any seasonal difference.

I would wait until our wedding and we get our wedding bands but we aren’t getting married until after college! So another 2 and a half years. That’s just too long for me to wait it out because after almost two months I’m getting aggriviated! Lol

Yea my knuckles are bigger than my finger! So it doesn’t slide past my knuckles but my finger is skinnier so it is still spinning but fits good 😂

I don’t have much experience with sizing beads but I did learn a useful tip from my jeweler recently. The best time to test the sizing/fit of rings is in the spring/fall due to the in between weather. They suggested that we finalize the sizing on FHs band in the spring (he has a similar sizing issue, his knuckles are much larger than the rest of his finger). Just a thought but maybe wait until the spring and see how it feels then move forward with a solution then? That way, whatever solution you go with, it should feel like a comfortable fit all year.

Where are you from? I’m in MI and my ring is much bigger when it’s cold! The diamond constantly spins to the side of my finger- especially when I’m typing and doing schoolwork. But come spring/summer/fall it will fit just fine again!

When I say my ring’s bigger in winter, I mean it fits bigger in the winter. It’s my fingers that shrink when it’s cold :-)

I ordered these too and I'm so happy I did. I thought my ring was too big, but it really wasn't. I just wasn't used to wearing a ring at all so the turning or movement seemed odd!

Stumbled acrossSizing Beads in Engagement Ring? 2

this older post in a google search and thought my response may be helpful. I've worn a top-heavy engagement ring for 15 years. The spinning used to be such a distraction. I had sizing beads put in probably 12 years ago and it's the best decision I ever made. Having them taken out this week (and immediately replaced 😂) to have my ring bent back round. I don’t feel them at all, they stop the spinning completely, and they don’t affect sizing in my experience. Hope this helps!
