Sizes Changed At David's a Bridal! Horrified!

Jessica, on May 25, 2014 at 6:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

So on May 6th, my dad, myself and one of my Bridesmaids went to look at dresses at David's Bridal. I was one of the lucky few who found a dress that fit me in every single way and was available to purchase and take out of the store on the same exact day. Now..the dress I got is a size 14 and absolutely gorgeous. When I went to try on dresses the employee helping me out brought me a 38C Longline Bra to use while trying on dresses

Here's my horror. I went back today because I have an appointment on Tuesday to have my dress bustled. I needed to purchase a Longline Bra because I had opted out that day. Since my dad had already broken his bank enough for me. When trying on different Bras the employee told me I didn't and wouldn't fit into a 38C and that my perfect fit was actually a 42B! How is this possible?! I bought my dress 2 weeks and 5 days ago. I just don't see how my bust has went up 2 sizes in such a short amount of time! I'm terrified! Does this mean my dress won't fit me now??

Bras have sister sizes. To find the sister size, you go up in the band and down in the cup or vice versa. Even if your size hasn't changed, one May fit better than the other. For example, I'm a 34DDD but a 36DD sometimes fits better, depending on the bra. I wouldn't worry too much until you try the dress on again.

This does not necessarily mean the dress will not fit. You'll need to try on the bras and the bras with the dress to know for certain.

But I would not worry over-much. Bra sizing is all kids of crazy and, depending on the maker and style of bra, sizing can vary but 1-2 cup and.or band sizes. And there are also these potential contributing factors:

-the bra used to try on dresses had stretched out/relaxed from use and a new bra is tighter/smaller than the one they have for trying on dresses

-one consultant brought one that is too small and the other brought one that is too big.

If it IS the same maker (brace yourself for some weird math)...

    - the cup size in a 42B is typically roughly equivalent to a D for a 38-band (or a C in a 40). so the difference is not awful and could be driven by a matter of opinion on how the cup should fit you

    - if, while wearing the 38, you were using the outer-most hooks, you could reasonably wear a 42 on the inner-most hooks and they could be fairly similar is size.

Again, don't panic! This could just be part of the craziness that exists with women's clothing sizes.

The bras they bring you in store are usually tried on by hundreds of girls and get stretched out. I got a 36DD and the one in the store was MUCH loser than the new one that came home with me LOL.

I'm going to be stretching that bad boy out before the wedding.

The only thing that I can think right off the top of my head is that the bras they brought me had never been opened at all. So they all seemed to be brand new. I keep going over it again and again in my head. I was there almost 3 weeks ago and supposedly fit into a 38C and then today the 38C was to small, the 40 was to small, but the 42 was perfect. The attendant more or less told me that I might've went up in size since my first fitting..

The bras are the same exact brand..so I guess I'm extremely lost as to how I could've changed so much in size. I'm trying to have good thoughts and to keep calm. I know it's only natural to be terrified of not fitting into your dress. They did mention that they'd exchange for a bigger size, but that it would most likely need altered.

I'd rather stick with my size 14 and if it doesn't work out Tuesday..get myself back down to where I was in my weight 3 weeks ago! Thanks so much for the awesome replies ladies!!

SERIOUSLY. go with the bra that you tried on when you purchased and fell in love with your dress!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant stress that enough. i tried on a smaller size at 3 fittings because they never had the size i "needed". i tried on a 42C multiple times, at all my fittings, until my final fitting i ordered the size i actually needed a 44D. the bra fit 100x better obviously, but when i put the dress on it TOTALLY changed the dress. i left leaving SO sad and so unhappy and just feeling that something was not right. i made an emergency appointment on friday to go in and try it on with the smaller bra, just to see if i was just crazy or if it really was affecting the fit of the dress for me. and sure enough, i tried the smaller bra and amazingly enough it fit like it did originally. dont ask me how, but apparently undergarments can really change the fit of the dress. thank god they let me exchange it out. and my dress is corset back so i am snug in it anyway, so the size of the bra doesnt even make me feel one way or the other. i dont feel any less comfy in the smaller size. i really wouldnt buy anything until you try it on with the dress. this is just my personal experience but i would at least try both sizes on WITH the dress, dont go by which bra feels better by itself, before making your final decision.

Um why are you freaking? Why didn't you tell her that you wore a 38C when you tried on dresses? How does she even know you won't fit when you did when you tried dresses on. Stand up and speak up.
