Size up for wedding band or same size?

When shopping for your wedding band did you stay true to your ring size of your engagement ring or did you size up/down at all? When shopping for your wedding band did you stay true to your ring size of your engagement ring or did you size up/down at all? My ring finger size is 3.5 but for my engagement ring the jeweler suggested going to 3.75 which fits fine. Its fits comfortably - snug during times of the day and looser during other times but never loose enough where it would ever come out of my finger.

When we go shopping for wedding bands should I stick to the same ring size as my engagement ring or should I size down? Or should I go up to 4 - we do plan on starting a family some day and i'm not sure if this is true but after being pregnant and having kids do your fingers stay the swollen size or does it revert back to how you were?

Mine are both the same size but they don’t match perfectly. I like it though.

For our wedding bands, we went to the same independent jeweler that made my engagement ring. Originally the engagement ring was too big and loose (my husband had taken me to a chain store under the guise of looking at rings to get my size) and we had to get it resized. When we went back to pick out our wedding bands, our jeweler just ordered mine in the correct size he had on file. They both fit perfectly.

Interesting! You know so much about what could affect ring fit. I’ll definitely keep those things in mind. Thank you!

Your ring size doesn’t change when you have a child lol. Ring size changes if you gain a lot of weight or if you are very swollen (this one is temporary, obviously & could happen during pregnancy, but will go away after).
So if you think you’ll gain a lot of weight with time, then sure size up. But just because you plan of having children one day is not a reason to get a larger ring.

We have had this problem twice now! When he got my engagement ring he also got my wedding band which was fine with me! I love them both. They were too big so we went and got them sized down to 5 and a 1/4. 5 felt pretty snug but I have certain health issues so my joints do swell at times so we were scared a 5 wouldn’t fit at times. I have to have them resized again next month because it was still too big, my FH got me these silicone things to wrap around to add “bulk” for the time being which helps but due to another health issue ( Gastroparesis) I have trouble properly digesting my food and my weight fluctuates and I’ve lost 10 pounds since are engagement so now with the silicone stuff it’s not loose but it keeps spinning upside down on my finger so I have to figure out if we should go with a 5 or 4 and 3 quarters. When my joints are really bad the ring is really tight so there’s so many things to take into consideration when we do the next sizing and cleaning!

Yuppers!! Due to a health issue that caused me to loose like 30 pounds, now I’ve been jumping between gaining and loosing about 10 pounds. This and joint swelling has become a issue with decisions on how much smaller we need to go because the 5 1/4 was a little big but now with the ten points off again, it’s bigger. God only knows how much I’m capable of losing or gaining before my wedding. This has also been a concern for my dress since I seem to be losing or gaining a amount that effects sizes!

Sorry to hear about your struggle. In this case it’s probably wise to size up & get little silicone ring adjusters for when your joints are not swollen or for when you lose weight. I hope you feel better soon.

No worries about it! I just posted in attire about being scared about my wedding dress but I do okay! I think I’m probably gonna do the 5 and then keep the silicone adjusters I have Incase because idk how many times a ring can be messed with before you kinda screw them up. I never had nice jewelry so I don’t know much!!

Yes definitely go with silicone ring adjusters! Rings typically shouldn’t be sized more than twice, especially if they have stones on the band. After that ring construction will be weakened.
Good luck with your dress! I don’t know what style your dress is, but adding corset back is great for accommodating weight changes!

Ball gown style so that way if I get bloated it won’t show and yes I definitely planned on getting a corset type back or a dress they can alter one in instead of like a zipper or whatever so that way if I bloat or anything I can adjust it but that’s also a good idea with the weight! I’m sure they can make the corset backing big enough to accommodate if I need to loosen or tighten!

We went with what our jeweler told us. You can always go up or down throughout your life. I would get what feels comfortable now ☺️

It depends, are you wearing your band closer to your hand or closer to your nail? Your finger is different sizes at different points on the finger and this will determine what size will work best for the look you are going for. (I work in a jewelry store)

Actually, with a reputable jeweler, a ring can be sized as many times as needed.. its not the amount of times, but the change in size to drastically that creates issues with the ring structure. I recommend to anyone who is sizing more than 3 sizes to order rather than resize. Im in the jewelry industry.

Mi finger went up .25 a size, so not too much. Up to 7.25 vs. 7. But I also gained 37 pounds since I got married 14 years ago and had a child 11 years ago. So .25 size increase is not too bad! I recently lost my e-ring, so I decided to upgrade the wedding band and made it 7.25. When we replace my e-ring, I will order a 7.5 because the e-ring feels tighter once the wedding band is on too, and I also want a 3mm thick e-ring setting. I wear my wedding band at the base of the finger. When I get bloated the ring is slightly snug but not too tight. And when I swim with it, it's just small enough not to fall off.
