Sit down dinner vs buffet/stations.

jennifer, on March 28, 2018 at 3:38 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Hi Ladies,

im torn between sit down dinner and buffet/stations. I would like stations but my family insists on sit down. I have my tasting coming up and I need to decide prior to this. what are your thoughts? is stations tacky?

I don't think stations are tacky, but sit down is usually more formal. How formal is your venue, how formal of an event are you going for?

The biggest pro in my mind of stations/buffet is you don't have to worry about meal options - getting meal choices back from your guests, making sure each guest gets the right thing... It's also a plus that guests get more control over the food they'll be eating.

The biggest pro of plated is that there is no worry about chaos at the buffet line, worry about calling up tables, etc.

For a wedding I always prefer plated. Stations I think are fun, and more suited for the cocktail hour. I absolutely dislike holding my plate all dressed up milling around for food. I think buffets are best suited for other events other than a wedding.

We're doing family style because we prefer buffet to plated (people get to choose exactly what they want and how much) but don't have room in our venue for buffet tables. Seems like it will be a good compromise in terms of utility and formality.
