Sister&bridesmaid won't buy her dress, what do i do?

Evelina, on March 18, 2020 at 4:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
My sister who is also one of my bridesmaids, cant buy her own dress, I feel like it shouldn't be my responsibility when we are having to pay for everything else.

Help? Thoughts?

Can't as in refuses to, or can't as in isn't able to?

Getting their own dresses is usually the responsibility of the bridal party, however, in cases like mine, where all my girls are in college without full time paying jobs, exceptions can be made. You could offer to help pay for part, like PP said.

In my opinion it shouldn't be your responsibility but then again it can be.
It shouodnt be bc its your big day and i know your bridemaids were informed way inadvance to get their dresses along with prices...
Then it becomes your responsibility bc some will say " your choice of style" you pay for it and if you want her in your wedding then its ok to pay for it.Me personally i feel if someone your bridemaid they should be RESPONIBLE to have their dresses and w.e. required of them.

The "shoulds" don't really matter here. Bottom line: You have to decide what is more important to you, having your sister in your wedding or not helping her pay.

I think it’s going to depend on her financial situation and if she’s in a spot to be able to afford $50. Do you know what her bills are looking like right now? Maybe she had some unexpected financial obligations come up? This COVID-19 may be putting her job in jeopardy? These are crazy times for sure and on top of that, do we really know what’s going on behind the scenes of people’s lives? Even those closest to us? It’s not like people are shouting from the rooftops, “yeah, I’m struggling to pay my bills and can’t even afford gas to get to work. I’m being sent to collections. Oh and I just got laid off.” That’s embarrassing for most people. I know I would be embarrassed to tell people that.

I’m assuming you chose her to be a bridesmaid because you want your sister to be a part of your big day. How important is it for you to have her standing there next to you? Enough to spend $50 on her dress? Only you can decide that.
I assumed all my girls were financial healthy enough to pay for the typical bridesmaids expenses. However, knowing that they’ll never wear these dresses again, I didn’t want them to spend $100+ on a dress that was just for my wedding so I paid for all of them.
I think it’ll all come down to— how important is it for you to have your sister there as a bridesmaids. You said it yourself, $50 isn’t a lot to ask of her. It could be turned around and said about you.
