Sister walking me down the aisle

Ashley, on December 18, 2016 at 3:45 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 2 17

My mom and dad are not in my life and my sister helped in raising me is it weird for her to walk me down the aisle. I'm having a destination wedding so it's kind already not traditional.

Do it! I think what's weird is when brides insist a man/male relative has to walk them down the aisle and then he isn't as close to her as her mother/another woman in her life is.

I don't think it's weird at all. I think it is perfectly fine for your Sister to give you away, especially if she was the one that pretty much raised you. And, it does show your appreciate for her role in your life.

My Dad and brother can not make it to my out of state wedding. My father gave me away my first marriage. My mother passed away when I was very young so she is not an option. However, her sister, my Aunt stepped in and we are very close - is it appropriate to have an Aunt give you away?

I’m so happy I found this. .my sister and I have never been close, but she’s always been my protector. I feel good about asking her. We’ve both been through so much; our reactions were just different. And that’s okay.

    Thank you. 🥰
