Sister in law in bridal party?!?!?!

Erika, on November 30, 2019 at 8:43 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 10
So my fiancé’s brother got married recently. I was not in his sister-in-law’s bridal party. She did include me in the bachelorette trip and had me over the morning of with his mother and aunt. I was extremely involved with the bridal shower and bachelorette trip with my FH cousin and it went unappreciated. I am on good terms with my FH sister in law but we’re just not close. Now it’s my turn. I have my FH two cousins whom I’m close with in my bridal party along with 9 other girls. I plan on having my future SIL involved with everything she included me in. However, I’m getting a lot guilt and comments from my MIL about not having her in my bridal party and how it would look. My FH is not that helpful with what I should do concerning the matter and I’m just so unsure! Should I give into the guilt or just leave it the way it is

You weren't in her bridal party correct?

Just leave it the way it is, at least you're including her in the festivities of the bridal shower etc. Being family does not make someone a part of the bridal party IMO. You have quite a few BMs already.

Correct, I was not. She added people in last minute as well. But I was not one of them. I was fine with not being in it as well

No distraje to your mother in law but if you were not in hers then why should she be in yours? Plus 9 is a lot of bridesmaids so why add more. If mom in law says something I would nicely say that you have all the people and do not wish to add more but still want to include her in the events. Plus she may not want to buy a dress and be a bridesmaid.

I wouldn’t. If you’re not close to her it seems unnecessary.

Leave things the way they are. This is the "wedding politics" that I don't like. Needing to include or invite people just so you don't hurt their feelings.
Do what is best for you, this is your wedding, your moment.

You weren't even in her bridal party. Leave it the way it is. Your FH should be sticking up for you

You’re not obligated to include anyone in your bridal party. It’s none of your MIL’s business.

I feel very passionate about this particular subject matter. Stand your ground and don’t let anyone bully you into picking someone over someone else or adding on if you don’t genuinely want to. It’s your day and your choice who you want to give the honor too. Some will argue family should automatically be included but I beg to differ. Sometimes friends are more like family than actual family. Pick who you want standing with you on your big day. Who has been there for you and supports you and who you want to honor.

I would say it depends on your family. I'm having a predominantly family wedding party. But its tradition in our family. I am even including my - will be future sister in law (my BIL will be proposing in the next year). But it depends on you and your family dynamic.
