SINGLE MOM GETTING MARRIED...

andcoheley, on June 5, 2014 at 5:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 15

So I am a single mom with a 5yr old son. My FH has been in his life for 3 of those years. He calls him dad and is the only father he knows. It is a no brainer that we would like to include him in the wedding. We are getting married on the water and had not planned on having a large wedding. I was thinking about having him walk me down the isle since my father has passed. What do y'all think? What about the father/bride dance? Do you think that I should avoid the dance all together or dance with my son? Insight PLEASE!!!!

I think it would be cute to have him walk you down the isle. On the dance, leave it off and do mother/ son dance and dance the same time your FH and his mom dance, that would be cute too.

i am single mom father has passed, my boss is walking me down the isle but my two teenage daughters are bridesmaid and when the minister says "and who gives this bride to this man" they will take one step forward and say "we do".

That would be real sweet to have your son walk you Smiley smile

Then if you want do a mother/son dance with him too.

    It sounds so cute!

I am also a mother, my daughter is almost 7. Her and her future step dad are going to have their own dance too!

My son walked me down the aisle. We didn't do mother/son dance, and he would have been embarrassed if we had so I didn't force it. We just skipped the father/daughter dances altogether. If your son is willing, it would be cute to do a mother/son dance while your FH danced with his mom

My mom had my sister and I walk her down the aisle for her third marriage. The minister asked, "Who presents this woman to be married?" and we answered "We do?" Looking at it now it seems even more archaic than most wedding traditions, but at 15 it meant a lot to me.

My son will be the ring bearer art my wedding. he calls my fh dad, his dad last saw him in May 2011. Maybe you could ask your son what he wants to do. Last year at Nanny brothers wedding her son was my brothers best man.

My 18 year old son is walking me down the aisle. I'm trying to find the perfect songs to have a dance with both my son and daughter (separately). It's just been us for the last 10 years so I want both of them to be a big part of my wedding.

Thanks everyone! The song I was thinking of us dancing to (if we decide that route) is He Didn't Have To Be-Brad Paisley

That song just really touches my heart. He hasn't seen his father in over 3 years and he just wanted a mom and a dad like all the other kids at daycare.

I am in a very similar situation with my son (he will be 4 when we get married). He and FBIL will be co-best men and my son and dad will walk me down the aisle. For the first dance with FH we were just going to have our parents cut in half way through then have my son cut in for my dad.
