Simplicity Gourmet Scam

Christina , on January 17, 2012 at 9:39 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

Hello Lovely Brides!

I went to a Bridal Expo in Pensacola, FL last weekend and signed up for a lot of sweepstakes and giveaways while I was there. I got a call this past Sunday from Simplicity Gourmet saying that I won a 3 day 2 night trip of my choice and some other perks in a gift package. I had to go to a hotel for a "preview" to claim the prize with my fiance if I wanted it. I researched it online and found a lot of Scam articles about the company and trip. I was wondering if anyone of you had a similar situation and actually went to the preview! Thanks for letting me know!

I did, they really push teh product and basically force you to sign for it, but you dont' have to buy anything really. Just resist the pushing Smiley winking. I didn't attempt to go on the trip, but I've heard that it is real if you actually feel like going and putting up with it all, lol!

I also received multiple calls from Simplicity Gourmet. What I gathered from reading reviews and from talking to the rep on the phone. It sounds like you have to pay to go to a demo of their products. I think you have to purchase a certain dollar amount in order to get the trip. The rep said this is not true...but the reviews I read led me to believe otherwise. Their products are very pricey. So I would stay away from them!

Yeah the rep that I talked to did not tell me it was a cook show, but all the reviews that I read said that it was. I was excited about "winning" something, but in the end my fiance and I decided that we aren't going to go. I also read a lot of reviews from people who actually bought the cookware and it ended up being no good. On top of being really expensive :/

FH and I attended the Simplicity Gourmet preview a few months ago. Initially when we received the call FH was skeptical but a co-worker told me that she and her husband have been on trips sponsored by companies like this so we decided to give it a try. At the preview the salesmen pushed the products really hard but FH would not budge. LOL. In the end we got our voucher for a free trip to our choice of Dominican Republic, Costa Rica or Mexico...we it's not completely free...there's some type of processing fee. We haven't used the voucher yet but it seems legit.

You'll have to let me know about the trip! I am excited for you! yeah those were the same locations that the rep offered on the phone. I read in some reviews that you could only book during "off seasons" and on certain days and such....

I've been to a preview with Simplicity Gourmet. I got a call and was skeptical so I checked them on the BBB. They had a A+ rating and are based near my hometown so I went. We did get the trip. You do have to cover your hotel taxes and all but the trip seems very legitimate. I haven't used it yet, but am looking forward to it. They do talk about their products and would like for you to buy them. People were nice, but we didn't buy anything. We still got the vacation and the $25 Bella Gourmet gift certificate and discounts off invitations and stuff.

We went and ended up buying a few things, but we are canceling our purchase today. we didn't read the fine print and found out our payments on the pans (which would be half off for a year) would only be paying the interest. The product seems to be an awesome deal, but the more i thought about things it just didn't seem right.

    Hey folks,

Sorry this is so late, and maybe you've figured this out already. My husband and I were duped by the Simplicity Gourmet folks back in 2008. We went to the preview, resisted buying the pots and pans, and we received the vouchers for the trip. We thought we were in the clear, but when we tried to sign up for dates, we kept getting refused for the dates and venues we wanted-- we did everything right, signing up for multiple possibilities, and they consistently refused us. Then the vouchers expired, and we were told that it was our fault for not using them in time! So just an FYI-- don't trust them!

So I just received a call and when I told the representative that I had already registered for my cookware, she proceeded to just hang up. Scam alert.

They called me to tell me that I had won a free trip and a bunch of other little goodies like a free knife, discounts towards invitations, etc. There was a lot of pressure to buy the cookware, etc. when my fiance and I went to the cookware show. The man that was doing the presentation was funny and made everything sound legit, but when we sat down with him at the end of the show, he told us that he knew we weren't going to buy from the beginning. We said paying 3,000 is a very big commitment, especially for pots and pans. Sure they are nice, but we can get All-Clad for $1500 cheaper and it be some of the nicest cookware on the market. He said, "Well I guess you guys will never have nice things. You are those kind of people." He was extremely rude for saying that. My fiance wanted to say, "Well, I'm an environmental engineer and make 6 figures a year. You sell pots." Thankfully he held his tongue! We read that the trip is a scam and people apparently pay for application fees and never end up going because the dates that they had an option to choose from were "all booked" and they never got refunded for their application fees, etc. Anyways, we had a bad experience and I would suggest in NOT GOING to the cookware show. IT IS A SCAM.
