Silver wear and plating

I’m sure this is the LEAST of my worries BUT, we are leaning towards Mexican food for our wedding. Both of our families are Hispanic and you can NEVER go wrong with tacos. The caterer provides plastic plates and I feel like it’s tacky but then I feel like glass plates or too over the top for tacos. What do you brides think? THANKYOU!

Honestly, if the plastic plates look nice enough... no one will notice.

If you get other plates, than you have to source them, pay for them, clean them up, and return/find a new use for them.

However, if it means that much to you, then get other plates! It's your wedding!

I think it depends on your budget and the amount of help you have. I would not do plastic plates, but we're having a formal wedding, so it would be very noticeably out of place. If you have the money to rent other plates, your caterer is okay using them, and you have the help to wash and return them, then I'd get different ones.

Plastic plates are fine honestly. You can get heavy duty clear plastic silverware at Costco/Sam's

We had a friend do tacos at their wedding and they used compostable plates and silverware, which I felt was a much better option than plastic but still appropriate for tacos. It totally depends on the vibe of your wedding. Outside, backyard, casual - plastic or compostable would be fine. In a formal, indoor setting I think plastic would be out of place.

Personally, I tell any couple wanting to do tacos at their wedding to carefully consider it. Yes, tacos are super tasty, but tend to fall apart and be messy.
When I'm wearing a fancy dress and have my hair and makeup done I generally don't want lettuce and cheese falling out of my mouth and grease dripping down my hands. In general, I think food that is eaten without utensils should be avoided for weddings (little canapes during cocktail hour are okay, but I think eating a full meal with your hands should be avoided). If you are going to do tacos, at the very least have those little wet-naps (like when you get BBQ ribs) available for guests so they can clean up well after eating. I do LOVE that you are thinking of doing food that reflects your heritage.

At our friends wedding it was a make-your-own taco buffet line and there was a ton of product falling off of plates as people assemble their own tacos. Now that coronavirus is such an issue that would be something to consider as well. If guests are just choosing from some pre-established combos and not customizing their tacos at all, that would be much easier to do so safely.

I agree that if the plastic plates are nice enough and heavy duty enough, i really don't think people would mind

You can give me a taco on a napkin so long as its a good taco. I don't think anyone will notice if the plates are plastic so long as there's good food and loads off it.
