Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Garland...

Heather, on February 22, 2018 at 11:56 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 29

Is there some magical fairy that bestows silver dollar eucalyptus upon those who do a special dancasdfjkl;ndwt~~~~~ LOL seriously though! What is the deal with the specific kind of eucalyptus! I haven't done my thorough research yet like normal, but I figured I could see if there's anyone here who has an idea before I dive into hours on web-surfing! Haha. Is there something about it that makes it harder to come by? There are no artificial garlands available for silver dollar eucalyptus (SDE lets say from now on). The only one i found was over $300 on amazon! CRAZY! I was hoping to have the head table adorned with thick and luscious SDE. So sad... Smiley sad of course, artificial stems are available at pretty decent prices all over the web... but are still a significant difference in their availability compared to others! I'm honestly very surprised by it.

So my question is... is there anyone out there who a) knows the scoop, b) was able to get a lot of SDE at their event through a florist, or c) also is having this experience?

It seems like SDE is the latest trend in elegant white and greenery themed weddings, especially when you look on Pinterest and it's all over the place! I'm just really surprised!

Our florist gave us maybe 20 five foot plain SDE garlands for $100 because she told us they were relatively cheap to source. Have you reached out to a local florist?

MrsBdeG, No I haven't yet... I was really hoping to spend the money on artificial so that I could use them again because I absolutely adore the way the look! But at that price, I will just go with the real stuff! I'm sure it probably smells phenomenal too! Thank you! I will definitely bring it up when we meet with our florist! Smiley smile

Oooo, good to know. I'll check out hobby lobby. I don't usually go there because my local craft stores are much closer than any Hobby Lobby but I will check it out! Thanks Kayla! Smiley smile

It is a big trend! We are having eucalyptus in our displays. Our florist is some what trendy and bohemian, so they use a lot of eucalyptus, greenery and sprig type floral designs.

About half of your pics contain seeded eucalyptus, not silver dollar. Are you set on silver dollar? I am not sure how long you need it, but fifty flowers sells them. I would think you would get a better deal through a local florist

Your photos show over 8 types of greenery including at least 4 types of eucalyptus. You should check out Fifty Flowers and The Garland Guy to get familiar with what is available in garlands. You will never regret picking fresh over artificial. If you are sure you really want artificial, they are not hard to make but you will need a lot of greenery and it will for sure cost more than fresh.

Bouqs.com offers this greenery. They'll ship it to you about 2 days before your wedding. Not sure if that timeline would work for you.

Admittedly I am team real over fake, but I was surprised to see that my niece had her garland up on her mantel at home 2 months after their wedding and they still looked great! It was the silver dollar garland and was real. Sure it won't last forever, but I consider flowers to be "consumable", just like good music, drink, and food. As other PPs mentioned, the real stuff is less expensive and will also give you the fragrance. What MrsBDeG mentioned is reason enough in my book to go real!

We plan to use a lot of SDE in our decor. We are buying in bulk from Sams Club. It’s relatively cheap. Or you could always buy faux and make your own garland? This is trendy, which I didn’t know before we picked this “theme” lol.

Thank you An. I couldn't find the pictures I saved with just SDE pictures. I am pretty set of SDE for the majority of my greenery however I'm not opposed to the addition of other greens. I did look at seeded, but even if I went with seeded I would need some SDE accents I just love it's look so much! Thank you for the links! I will probably just go for the real stuff when it comes down to it!

I know that I have many types in these pictures... I couldn't find the picture i saved that had just SDE in it. I'm not opposed to other greenery, in fact I do LIKE this look! I also like seeded eucalyptus actually but I really wanted to do at least just one garland of plain SDE at the head table. The more links that people are suggesting the more I'm realizing I wont be doing DIY faux garlands! I'm planning on doing faux boutonnieres and other smaller things... because that stuff I think I can pull off for cheaper, but I am planning on doing the real stuff for my bouquet and the BM's too! So I guess I didn't realize how pricey it was for faux garland! I'll definitely be using the real stuff! Thank you! Smiley smile

Okay, thank you everyone so much for your input!! I did more of my own research as well as using the links you all provided, and your suggestions.. we decided to stick to the boutonnieres and smaller items for faux DIY stuff, and we will be doing real floral bouquets like we planned, as well as real greenery garland! I'm excited to hear that the real stuff is cheaper because honestly, I love the real stuff! It's just the idea that if it's going to be drastically more expensive to do real then I'd rather do faux. I'm glad this works out. Thank you all for you help!

I'm doing a bunch of SDE in my bouquets, centerpieces, and decor as well. I was surprised at how cheap the real stuff was, to be honest. I'm excited to see my florist bring it all to life!

Whatever you do, it will be beautiful!! If you are doing the small things to save money, it will not really save much if any money by time you buy all the supplies and tools etc.. The florist can just use scraps from your fresh bouquets to make the boutonnieres and they will match nicely. If you are doing it because you enjoy creating things, I say go for it!!
