Silly vows/i do's...

Lauren, on March 29, 2019 at 10:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Strange question, but we want a little bit of silly in our ceremony. Currently our officiant has us saying things like "do you take Lauren as your awful wedded wife?" (Yes, awful.)

I'm totally down for this! Only one part of the ceremony will be silly like this..
My question is, would it be better for the I Do's (declaration of intent) to be silly like this, or the actual vows? Or even the ring vows?

Hope someone can help!

I did the traditional expect for my vows. They had some silly and funny jokes that characterize us. No inside joke, is things we are publicly open about it and I took this route to open my vows. I then moved to the romantic sweet portion but it felt nice hearing our guest laugh and then turn into aws.
I say do what makes you happy and what feels right for you. I doubted myself a lot with the approach I took but ended up sticking to it and it was perfect.

What was the order of your wedding ceremony? Did you say your vows first, then I Do's, the rings..or?

Right now the silliness is in the middle. It will be romantic vows, silly I do's, then romantic ring vows.

We had I do’s first then our own vows which is when I said some silly lines in the beginning and final was our ring exchange.

See, that is what I am kinda use to. The vows seem more personal to me, even if they are vows you found online. You can make those be silly.

I feel like the I Do's should be more serious/romantic. And I definitely think the I Do's should come before the vows and the rings! Smiley tongue

We are putting one small twist in our ceremony vows “I, _____, take thee, _____, to be my wedded wife/husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and ANNOY till death do us part.”

I just want to say I love “awful wedded wife” 😂 I would definitly laugh at that if I was a guest.
I say do what you like. It’s your wedding & your vows. I’m sure that my FH will have some silly parts in his vows & I will too, probably. I think it’s sweet & fun when couples personalize their ceremony in the way that best reflect their personalities.

Thanks! Haha. The officiant actually came up with it. I gave him my script and told him to change some things to make it more funny. He is actually a friend of ours. Smiley smile

He also added bits about me being cranky and FH going out all night with his buddies (that part doesnt really make sense for us tho...he doesnt go out with his buddies. They come over here haha!)
