Silk flower bouquets vs. Real

Lairdo, on July 23, 2008 at 7:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Any opinions on using silk flowers to create the bridal bouquets? I've found this is a way to conserve money and have noticed that silk flowers such as daisies can appear just as pretty and still be a more cost effective alternative than spending the money through a florist. Is anyone else finding this an option? Is it in poor taste to have the girls bouquets made of silk flowers and the guys boutineers real flowers? Thanks for the opinions!

I think if you do silk the should all be silk unless you do decoations silk and wedding party flowers real.. did you think about a wholesaler-- i am doing that and it cheaper to buy the real ones than the fake ones ..i have buying roses about a 1 a peice and still doing the same work i would do for the silk.

My wedding is 100% silk flowers. I'm doing Gerber daisies and they all look nice! We saved a ton of money, and now that places like Michaels and Jo-Ann Fabrics are getting rid of their summer flowers to replace with the fall flowers, they are all very inexpensive. The beauty of it is, you can buy extra in case you mess up on some flower arrangements and it costs way less then buying extra real flowers. Plus you can do the flowers ahead of time. My wedding is in a few weeks and we have had the flowers done since April. What we did with the bouquets is we put them in air tight plastic bags with some potpourri of some sort to make the flowers smell nice.

I am having my bridesmaids bouquets in silk flowers and my flowers real. My future mother in law made them for less than $30 a piece. i think they turned out terrific.

As expensive as flowers can be, why not - again...do whatever you think looks appropriate. Real flowers are beautiful but they do die.

You can have gorgeous flowers just by doing them your self. if you have a small budget, try produce junction (depending where you live) make it simple and you can get away with minimal arrangements

In detail shots by your Photographer it can be very obvious that your flowers are silk. Remember, this is your big day! Do what makes you happy and works for your budget.

Actually - to get decent silk or latex flowers, they end up costing more than fresh flowers if you buy a DIY fresh flower kit. You can do them yourself very easily (roses being the easiest to work with and cheapest). Shoot me an email if you want how to's for fresh wedding flowers.

By the way, it would cost you $30 to make your bridal bouquet with fresh roses!

I think real flowers are beautiful though like other brides to be I want to kepp my bouquet. I thought about having it preserved or having a silk replica made for me to keep. I have found that most real flowers are the same price if not cheaper though you have to get flowers like roses etc. not something imported from around the world. I don't think that there is anything wrong with having silk for the bouquets and real boutineers. I know that most people want to keep their flowers even bridesmaids etc. What I really like are the silk flowers that are scented. Plus, you can get them in advance instead of having to worry about them the day of. Brides are stressed enough and the less things to worry aobut the better. I hope all goes well.

Next weekend I am doing my first silk flower wedding. While I was initially hesitant, the bouquets are really turning out to be beautiful. It is important to use really high quality silks to get the best result. Unfortunately, it will cost just about the same as a fresh flower wedding, but if you want to keep your bouquets or have allergy concerns - it might be the way to go!

I am planning our wedding for April, and I have thought about the same thing. I have been married before, so I learned a lot from my first one. Not only do I plan to use silk flowers during our outdoor wedding, but I am going to use potted plants and flowers in terra cotta pots at the reception. This sort of kills two birds with one stone. When the wedding is over, I will have some beautiful things to use in my home, both inside and out.

My flowers are made out of wood and they are beautiful. Look just like real flowers. I pick them up Friday and can send a picture if you'd like
