Silicone ring okay for ceremony too?

Sarah, on June 11, 2021 at 1:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25
Hey y’all!

I know this is probably just preference, but I am thinking about us not wasting money on a real metal wedding band at all. At first I thought I wanted my fiancée to have both, but I don’t think he will ever have the desire to wear the metal one. Thoughts on a silicone ring during the ceremony?

Go for it! Save the money! As long as you guys are okay with it then I’m sure your guests won’t mind.

It's ya'lls decision so if you think it's best to just have the silicon ring, then go for it! Guests won't pay attention nor mind, they'll be too busy celebrating you both!

FH wants to wear a silicon one for everyday use, but I'm letting him pick out a real band to wear on special occasions such as dates, anniversaries, weddings, and other special events! Plus, I would just rather him have a real one at our wedding, especially for our close-up & details photos.

This is exactly what we did! I also thought my DH would want a metal one *and* the silicone one, but as he thought about it more, he realized he only wanted the silicone one - he didn't think he would ever wear the metal one. I can DM you a "details" pic of our rings together at our minimony if you want! I think it looks nice, but I'm super biased haha Smiley smile I don't think anyone ever thought twice about him having a silicone ring for our ceremony!

Make sure that he’s not just saying it to try to save you money. My husband kept insisting he only wanted a silicone ring because with his job and hobbies, a metal one would be unsafe. He wears other jewelry when we go out, so I told him if he didn’t want to pick out a metal one, too, that I would pick one for him. I sent a few pics of rings that I thought he might like, and he instantaneously sent back a different picture of one he had picked. He had clearly already found one he liked but never would’ve said anything had I not been more insistent. He now wears his silicone ones to work, etc. but always has his metal one on when we go somewhere.

There are some really beautiful real looking silicone rings. I have a few and my fiance has a few. We both have jobs where it's unsafe to wear a metal band so he got a silicone band for work and got a metal band for dates. I got a gold metal band to go with my engagement ring and just got a tattoo on my ring finger with his initials and Mrs above it. But I think a silicone band will still be nice for the wedding. Some people may not even notice that it's a silicone band.

Do whatever you like, but bear in mind that a silicone ring won't last a lifetime. If either of you are sentimental about wearing/keeping the rings you exchanged on your wedding day, I'd get a cheap metal ring.

My husband initially wanted tungsten, but eventually chose gold because tungsten is not resizable. The jeweler advised that some people care about wearing the same rings they exchanged on their wedding day, some people don't.

Defiantly okay! Especially if he doesn’t think he will wear a metal one. You can always go back later and get one. My husband wore his metal one for a few month before chipping it up pretty badly. He wears both the metal one and silicone one equally though.

I think this is totally fine! But- he could have a metal one for occasions and wear the silicone one daily like my husband. For our 1 year anniversary I got my husband an $800 band from Manly Bands that he had wanted (American flag ring, as he is in the military). And while I think it’s ridiculous, he doesn’t judge my super expensive ring that I wanted! I would do whatever will make your husband the happiest!

Thank you all for your input! I think we will go with silicone for now, and if he decides he wants a metal band down the road, we can get one!

We got my fiancé a silicone ring (to be used for everything, including the ceremony) for several reasons:
    1. His job isn’t the best for metal rings
    2. Our hobbies aren’t the best for metal rings3. He couldn’t pick a metal ring that he liked4. We plan to get “wedding ring” tattoos also
We just really didn’t see the point of spending a bunch of money on something he would only be able to wear super rarely - a silicone ring, he can wear all the time.

We exchanged silicone rings at our wedding because jewelry stores had been closed for the previous few months due to COVID. We got "real" rings last month (after both being fully vaccinated) and I love mine, but the silicone one is still really special to me because that's the one that was there at the wedding. You should each get whatever will make you happy.Silicone ring okay for ceremony too? 3

I was thinking about “borrowing” a ring. My fiancé isn’t big on wearing jewelry and I love my engagement ring so I plan to use that. It’s your day and budget if you want rings or no rings that’s your choice!!! tenor.gif

If you don't think you'll wear the metal ring, definitely just get the silicone ones! But if you want a metal one Modern Gents Trading Co. has nice metal ones for like $20. Actually my engagement ring is from there and I love it! It looks so real!
