Silhouette Slip

Mallory, on June 20, 2019 at 12:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
My wedding dress is going to be a ballgown. At my DB appointment, they had me in a ballgown silhouette slip when trying on. I was wondering, are these slips required or an option? Would you choose to get it or only get it if it's in your budget?

I had the same situation at my appointment. When my dress came in, I tried it on without the slip and was happy with the results. Smiley smile My dress already has 6-7 layers, so I didn't feel that a slip/extra layer was necessary. I'm skipping it.

Oo sweet! Yeah, I was trying on ballgowns and I wanted to try on a mermaid because I was curious. So i had a slip on for the mermaid but didnt switch the slip out for the ballgown, but i did have the ballgown slip on for the same dress as well (put the dress on twice) so I'm not sure if it'd need the slip or not 😂 I may just get the slip if it's in my budget.

I went to a local bridal salon and when I tried on my dress (ballgown) I wasn't even given the option to wear a slip!

I guess the purpose of it is to prevent the dress the go inbetween your legs while walking down the aisle. As well as help keep the dress straight¿ and keep its pattern¿ it's hard to explain.

Daughter's dress was an a-line ballgown, with probably 7 layers in the skirt, including a tiered crinoline. In the bridal salon they had her try it on with a "regular" ballgown slip and a "super-full" ballgown slip. (With the "super-full" anyone, including the groom, would have had a tough time getting within 5 feet of her; it made the skirt crazy-wide!) When the dress came in, she decided there was no way she needed ANY extra slip. All those layers made it plenty full for her tastes.

PS -- if she'd gone with a slip, she would have bought it off Amazon for less than $20 vs. what they cost in bridal salons.

The distance of having my fiance is my main issue. I dont want my dress being in the way from him being next to me. I dont want an awkward hug or a very distant kiss during the ceremony. Lol. That's why I'm iffy on the slip. I dont recall many layers being on the dress.

I have a ballgown and I got a crinoline to go underneath it. It isn't super puffy, but it adds just enough to help my dress keep its silhouette. I won't have issues getting close to FH, and I do plan on trying on my dress without the crinoline just in case I get super hot during the reception or something. It's mostly, in my case, to keep my dress from sticking to my legs as FH and I are both dancers and plan to dance the night away!

A slip will add “fullness” and maybe shape to a dress. But they’re absolutely not strictly necessary— it will just be your preference if you like it as is, or if you want it will a little extra poof! If you love the poof and your only concern is budget though, there’s no need to get a pricey one from a bridal shop. You can definitely find affordable slips on Amazon.

I had an A-line dress and opted out of a slip. I didn’t want the poof, personally Smiley smile
