Signtature Drinks

Brittney, on March 2, 2022 at 3:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 3 13

Our venue isn't too keen on allowing my sigature drinks and want to limit it to cocktail hour only. This is something I'm adimate on having and am worried about missing out on it. I'm seeing if they would allow us to keep the drinks available through most of the night BUT in order to get a signature drink you must have a drink ticket and each guest is limited to 2?

Has anyone used drink tickets before? How did they work?

Are you having an open bar in general? What was the reason they gave for not wanting to allow signature drinks throughout the night?

What is the venue's reasoning for this? I'm not a fan of drink tickets at weddings. I think drink tickets are better suited for charity events and carnivals. Will you be having an open bar the rest of the night?

They don’t have a limit on the beer and wine- just the liquor

All they told me was in the past they have allowed 1 signature cocktail during cocktail hour. They aren't limiting beer and wine

It seems like they may not be allowing this beyond cocktail hour because your bar package is beer and wine only. I’m guessing you will have to upgrade to an open bar (or an up-charge of some sort) to continue your signature drinks throughout the reception.

My bar is an outside vendor. If I went with the venue’s option it would have been just the bar cart for rent- I would have needed to try and hire a bar tender and provide my own alcohol. The mobile bar I hired is licensed, insured and is providing all the boose

We had our cocktails during cocktail hr only and it was fine. We didn’t have drink tickets, so I can’t speak to that. I personally think only having them during cocktail hr is ok.

Drink tickets are for festivals where you pay an admission fee. At a wedding that you are hosting, it is a faux pas to pass on any expenses at the wedding to the guests. If you are not able to afford something, you don’t offer it, period. Vendors don’t care about etiquette because they only focus on making a profit.

What is the demographic of your guests? What do they drink? What do they not drink? For example, in our families and social circles, people drink mixed drinks, straight liquor or nonalcoholic beverages. They will avoid beer/wine so it would a huge waste of money and alcohol for us to serve only that, Although the majority of WW says that is the best option in all situations, even if it doesn’t work.
If you have guests who prefer liquor and don’t drink beer/wine, what are their options that are not drink tickets? What is the venue willing to negotiate as a compromise? This should have been discussed during the initial tour before signing contracts. If they change anything after you sign the contract without drawing up a new one, they have breached the terms so talk to a lawyer in your area to see what your course of action is.

Affording a bar is not the issue - the bar is paid for my guests are not paying for drinks. It’s extending the time for offering the signature drinks. I didn’t ask your opinion on if you like the tickets I’m asking if anyone has used them and how well they worked. The tickets would be the compromise

It really boils down to what do your guests drink? If it’s already paid for, then guests should have the option of the signature drinks for the duration that the bar is open. Tickets are a regional thing and people in those areas where they are common say they are successful. If it’s not common in your area, it could be confusing as to how they work and the success rate. Ask your friends and family who are attending for their feedback as well.

This seems odd to me. The only time I’ve seen signature drinks at a wedding they’ve been offered the whole time. I would push back on the venue on this. I wouldn’t bother with drink tickets unless you think all your guests are going to want that drink after cocktail hour.

No drink tickets. I think it’s fine for signature cocktails only during cocktail hour. Not sure how many guests get them anyway.

My caterer said that less than half of guests will get the signature drink.
