Signature Drinks when Groom Doesn't Drink

Teresa, on January 31, 2019 at 2:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Weird question, my FH doesn't drink. He doesn't have an issue with drinking...it's a choice for him.

My family, friends, and I plan on drinking at the wedding. I would like to have two signature drinks listed on the Open Bar sign...just something that's a little bit fun. All of the examples i've seen give a Bride choice and a Groom choice. Initially I just thought pick a drink he'd like but then that may be disrespectful to his decision. Then, I thought pick a non-alcoholic drink he enjoys...but then I worry no one will choose his drink because to my knowledge no one in either of our families is anti-drinking.

Any suggestions? I may have to get creative with this.

My FH doesn’t drink either. If we do signature drinks I’m just going to pick two that I enjoy and I think will be popular amongst our guests. Nothing says there has to be a bride choice and a groom choice.

I would just avoid bride & groom's drinks and just have two popular signature drinks.

You can still come up with a cute name for them without them necessarily being “his and hers”. We called ours “Appley ever after” for an Apple sangria and “You and me G&T” for a gin and tonic. We just made sure to write a description of what the drinks were below the names so people knew without having to ask.

You could do a non-alcoholic drink for him but then put something down that it would also go good if you add *insert liquor here* (IE: grooms drink is orange juice. Which also goes well when adding some vodka to it!)

If all his friends and family know he doesn’t drink, I think a non-alcoholic one would be cute. Like then it would clearly be the bride choice and groom choice

Make his drink virgin but have the booze on the side so people can add a shot of vodka or something to it. Or just have two alcoholic drinks and buy him his favourite soda.

There are some really cute ideas here, but just remember that you can do whatever you want when it comes to signature drinks - it doesn't have to be a bride and groom thing.

My FH is allergic to alcohol, but I want him to have something he wants to drink all night, so we’re having a bourbon drink for me and a mocktail for him and will just put something like “alcohol suggested: vodka” under his drink. At restaurants he usually just gets a virgin mojito when he asks for a mocktail so I want to make sure he has a different experience at our wedding.

FH doesn't drink either, went a little too crazy in his early 20's, got in some trouble (the week we met actually), made a decision, and has been sober for almost 8 years. Me and his family have told him that we wouldn't be upset if he wanted to have a drink or 2 when out as long as he was able to be responsible about it but he has chosen not to take the chance, which we totally respect. I am mostly a beer drinker and don't really care for sugary/fruity drinks.

With that being said, although it's an option for us, we are forgoing both to avoid people questioning it or giving him a hard time (mostly my family of big drinkers).
