Signature Drinks or No?

Sb, on January 19, 2020 at 10:33 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
My fiancé and I are now way over budget, so we are looking for ways to cut costs. Initially we were doing beer, wine and a few cocktail options (our venue has an open vendor and BYOB option). However, to cut costs, I suggested that we serve two signature drinks only. Is this tacky? I’m just not interested in breaking the bank to provide people with multiple drink options. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I say just serve beer and wine only to help cut costs.

I don’t think it’s tacky and all. You could also just go with the beer and wine option, that might save you the trouble and headache. I think with building a great cocktail you would have to purchase soo many different ingredients that it just might be easier to pick some of you guys favorite wines and beers and roll with it. We thought about just doing a signature cocktail for the cocktail hour and transitioning to wine and beer for the reception. I just don’t want to break the bank on liquor. But ultimately do what you feel is best, it’s YOUR big day! Smiley smile

Not tacky at all and a great way to save money and simplify your shopping list as well as bartending needs. I've been to many weddings where signature cocktails were served and it can be done in a way that is really cute and reflects the couple!

We are planning to do 2-3 signature drinks that reflect our drink preferences. If you pick drinks that have versatile alcohol and have a variety of mixers and garnishes, you can give guests the option to still customize their preferences somewhat from your more limited selection. That way you don't need to have bottles of every kind of alcohol.

Our signature drinks are going to be a gin and tonic and whiskey ginger, each with some special garnishes and simple syrups to make them uniquely us. I think we are having gin, vodka, and whiskey as our alcohol options and then ginger beer, coke, tonic, and seltzer to mix, and garnishes like lemons, limes, oranges, mint, cucumbers, cracked pepper, and a few simple syrup options. From those guests will be able to make moscow mules, vodka tonic, whiskey and coke, etc even those those aren't on our signature drink list. I feel like whiskey is one of the more versatile of the amber liquors, and if you mix in simple syrup in can be used similarly to rum or bourbon in making drinks, vodka mixes well with most things, and my default wedding drink is a gin and tonic. This way we don't have to buy a handle of every alcohol under the sun.

I'd do just beer & wine, with no hard liquor (or hard liquor for purchase).

Totally not tacky! You could also consider doing the two signature drinks just during cocktail hour rather than the entire evening to reduce costs even more.

Initially my husband and I planned on specialty drinks during cocktail hour, beer and wine reception, and a champagne toast. After looking at our alcohol bill we cut out the specialty cocktails and champagne toast altogether - and none of it was missed! I think these kinds of things are very memorable when you do have them, but you don't feel like you've missed out on something if you choose not to Smiley smile

As long as you have a wide variety of sodas/nonalcoholic drinks for anyone who doesn't like beer/wine you should be fine. I personally hate beer/wine so I would be all about sodas if they were available.
