Signature drink naming, help desperately needed

Sarah, on January 24, 2018 at 2:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

Ahh this is my first time posting on any wedding forum.

We have tried so hard to come up with a cute and creative name for our signature cocktail and we are failing miserably at this! Honestly, we don't even have the drink itself nailed down. He's a rum or anything but vodka drinker and I'm primarily a vodka drinker so we're struggling. We both love a good sangria but haven't come up with anything witty for that either.

Below is some background/ some ideas we tried to channel when coming up with names -

- Our wedding theme is Winter Wonderland and I was originally trying to do something clear, white or light blue but I pretty much gave up because I doubt the venue would buy facing white chocolate liqueurs. I'm also not trying to have a chocolate martini as our drink because we recently went to a family wedding and that was their drink.

- He's from Brooklyn, I'm a Jersey girl (I was/am still open to doing his and her drinks). We've been living in Brooklyn for the last 3 years so something inspired by that would work. We also thought about the musical aspect like a Biggie for Brooklyn and maybe Bruce Springsteen or Jon Bon Jovi for Jersey but I'm not huge fans of theirs individually so nothing came to mind lyrically to play off of...

- We met on a summer night in a park in NYC (Union Square) and have been together ever since. Our officiant will be touching on how we me during the ceremony so I thought maybe - A Walk in the Park? But then it doesn't detail what kind of drink it is.

-We like to travel. Our favorite cities are New Orleans and Miami.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help with this!

We tossed around ideas with our barstaff about doing one for each of us even though we have st least 1 drink we both love so that's always an option! You don't have to describe what's in the drink with the name either. If you're doing a bar sign with the drink on it you put the name big and bold and then underneath you put the ingredients just smaller so they don't stand out as much.

We are doing his and her signature drinks. The name do not have anything to do with what is in the drink, on the sign we will list ingredients. We are doing a 1920s themed wedding but less high class champagne and more speakeasy, barnstorming kind of vibe. So my drink is the Mary Pickford, created by a bartender for the actress, a clear rum based drink. And FH's drink is the South Side Fizz, a gin based drink created by Al Capone's gang to hide the gin. Speak with your venue about what they can do for signature drinks, settle on what you want and then worry about naming them.

Ooooh, we are meeting with our venue this weekend and will be discussing our signature drink(s) so it has been on my mind lately.

How about white rum, blue curacao, and lemonade? You could call it Something Blue and then list your ingredients. Might be too summery for a winter wedding though. If you want a sangria how about So Berry Happy Together? Or Blushing Bride?

I've been toying with the idea of offering 4 signature drinks, one for each of the pieces of the traditional rhyme but, I have a feeling it may be too many options. For example:

    Something Old- An oldfashioned

Something New- not sure but, a fun cocktail that is only recently popular or has a twist

Something Borrowed-a Moscow Mule (or other drink borrowed from another culture)

Something Blue-using the drink suggested above

No ideas for names, that would depend what the drink is, but winter wonderland makes me think of candy canes, and therefore a peppermint martini. I'd personally never drink it, lol, but I think it works with the theme. Thinking of other white drinks, a White Russian comes to mind. But really, don't overthink this too much, or you'll drive yourself crazy. You can just pick a cocktail that already has a name, you don't need to get into your whole relationship backstory to name a drink.
