Signature cocktails

Arline, on December 18, 2017 at 1:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 24
We have decided instead of having an open bar with lots of drinks choices. We will do beer, wine, sodas, water, and two signature cocktails. A his and hers. Trouble is we are social drinkers and we mainly stick to a few drinks we know we like. How does one determine what the signature cocktails will be. We would like something easy for our bartender and something that will be quick with not a lot of mixing ingredients or a blender. Stir or shaker only drinks.

I can suggest Jailer Juice, my FILs special but it’ll get you pretty buzzed
its a thing of flavored monster, no specific one, about a 5 second pour of fruity vodka, and then stir
you can’t taste the alcohol very much and it’s my favorite drink, I could only get through about 3 big glasses

If you're going with just 2 signature drinks I would go with 2 different liquors, maybe vodka/white rum and bourbon/whisky, or tequila if that's your thing. This way you cover most people's tastes. From there, pick your favorite mixers or something for the season. Your bartenders may have suggestions for crowd pleasers if you're stuck.

I'm partial to a cape cod for a vodka drink, it's fruity but not overly sweet IMO.

I would definitely go with one sweet and one bitter/strong. Maybe something like a cosmo or margarita and an old fashioned? Do some research, but like PP said, one on the lighter side and one on the stronger side.

I agree with the having one with light liquor and one with dark liquor. Jack & Coke and Moscow Mules are always popular and super easy to make.

I would advise against using an energy drink with your alcohol. Monster is absolutely horrible for your heart and drinking too many with alcohol is not a good combo. Maybe a jack and coke for the guys and a vodka drink like PP stated.

You’re probably right, FIL had 3 heart attacks but that’s because he drank energy drinks all the time. It won’t stop me though, brings back good memories of him.

Okay, but you just proved my point completely. It's your wedding obviously, so do as you wish. There are so many ways to honor your FIL.

I’m not really sure how to incorporate ex-military, road captain of a motorcycle club into my wedding. Maybe I’ll just wheelie down the aisle. Smiley smile
Also idk what point I proved, it’s one drink for one day. It’s not like I’ll be double fisting them all night long.

You can do a memory table and many other things to honor him. I was trying to say the risks of the drink and you stating that your FIL had three heart attacks because of an ingredient that you're putting in a signature drink proves that. You might not be double fisting them, but your guests could be. It's something to consider. Obviously your wedding, but there's more than one way to honor someone other than a drink that is dangerous to your guests health.

Thanks... my FH prefers to do shots of cinnamon moonshine...lol and as for me I usually drink vanilla vodka with flavored water. I never drink energy drinks and if I did I'd never mix them with alcohol.

We went with whiskey and rum, based on our preferences. The venue suggested a whiskey peach tea and a rum punch. We opted agreed as they both were a bit tropical and fit the venue very well. I'm so glad we did. These were drinks they made all the time, but they were unique for our guests. The rum punch was a big hit.

He actually died from a motorcycle accident that had nothing to do with his health, but thanks anyway.

Wow, I 2nd (or 3rd) the NO Energy drinks. They are so horrible for you, and combined with alcohol they are even worse. However, I have no suggestions for drinks other than Lava Flows, sorry!

Ask your bartender for some common cocktails. Jack and coke isn't a cocktail...it's a highball. you need at least three ingredients technically to make a cocktail. So use this as an opportunity to find a new favorite! You could do something with an energy drink in it if you have your heart set on it but it could be more fun than just monster and vodka.

We are torn between a full bar and a few specialty cocktails plus wine and beer because FI loves jaeger.

For signature, try to do something that goes with your theme. You can also ask the bartender for some drink ideas and then create names for them. I plan on doing this Smiley smile

I don't care how Jack and coke is classified lol, if I have to pick a signature drink it's that because it's what I like to drink. Smiley smile

You're getting married in October, so you could go with a fall thened cocktail. I attended a fall wedding last year that had something to do with apple and it was tasty. I don't remember what it was, but you can always ask your bartender for a list of fall-themed cocktails they'd recommend.

In general, I'd ask your bartender what cocktails are popular, as well as ask a few people on your guest list what cocktails they like or would recommend. You'll at least know you're picking something that your guests like or that your bartenders know go over well.

That drink would have me in bed with a migraine for 3 days. The smell alone of energy drinks makes me sick.
