Signature Cocktails - cute names or nah?

AyEmVee, on April 10, 2017 at 10:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

My venue and bartender are BYOB, so for the sake of simplicity/cost, we're only providing beer, wine and two signature cocktails.

The two signature cocktails will be Jack and Coke and then a huckleberry vodka with blueberry lemonade.

I got back and forth on using cutesy names for the signature cocktails on my bar sign. If I had them, a few thoughts would be "The Blushing Bride," "The Grinning Groom" or "Huckleberry Ever After." I'm open to other suggestions as well! I know this is dumb in the grand scheme of details...my guests will just be happy for free booze! But I'd really like to hear some opinions.

I would go for classic cocktails that your guests will understand and enjoy. I would drop the cutsie cocktails..

@Nancy - I guess I should clarify...I am going with basic cocktails - vodka lemonade and jack & coke. Just curious on if I should LABEL them cutesy (with a description next to the name) or just put the alcohol/drink on the menu as is.

It's like going to your favorite bar and ordering the "Armadillo punch" when in reality it's just rum, orange juice and pineapple juice.

You could do a sign with "Bride's Choice" and "Groom's Choice" but I would stick with the classic names and not the cutesy ones.

Oooh, @LauraR, I really love that idea! Not sure why I didn't think of that before. I like how it tells our guests who picked which drink combo (though I'm sure they'd all be able to figure it out), which is what I was going for with the cutesy names. I just liked the idea of sharing our favorite drinks with all our loved ones to celebrate. Thanks!

I actually really liked the cutesy names! Since they're pretty simple I feel like you can put the cutesy names & what is in it under the title. I love your examples!

@Breana, thank you! Wish I could come up with a better one for Jack and Coke. "Whiskey me away" is one that comes to mind.

If you can't tell, I'm a nerd for puns.

I like the cute names. I would write a bar menu or labels and add a description of what each drink is under the cute names though.

I really like the "Bride's choice and Groom's choice"! Simple and to the point, while still being personal.

Well, we're having literary puns to coincide with our literary themed wedding. Tequila Mockingbird and 50 Shades of Grey Goose are on the list as well as a few others. Needless to say, I love it Smiley smile

I like the cutesy names, it makes it more fun Smiley smile

Huckleberry Ever After is adorable! Instead of "Jack and Coke" you could do "(Groom's name) and Coke"? Or you can do Bride's Choice Groom's Choice / His and Hers / The Belle and The Beau, etc

I like the cute names! My venue comes with a signature drink and I happen to love jack and cokes, so I'll call it a jill and coke lol. I'm wondering though, for that drink in particular I'm hoping they make it on the spot and not in those little dispensers? I feel like the coke would be so flat. I haven't asked my venue yet, it's so early for me.

I love the cutsie names, OP. Usually there's a description anyway so guests know what's in it. Personally, I don't think it's dumb at all.

How about one named Uptight? I know a few people who could use that COCKtail....

I don't really get the cutesy drink names. I'm all for labelling a drink with a description of what it really is. If it has a name it usually goes by, use that name. If it's a more unique cocktail, describe it accurately. For example, ours was a lemonade mimosa with blood orange puree. We didn't give it a funny name. It was a lemonade mimosa with blood orange.

I like cutesy with the description on the side!! My SIL did orange crush for the brides drink and called it Kate's Crush, which was cute but also not too hard to figure out what it was

Hasn't anyone gone to a restaurant/lounge before? Bartenders create drinks, and give it a name. OMG

@bluehen, there's nothing to "get." Your drink name is pretty wordy actually. Something short and to the point would've made it easier to say opposed to "I'll have the lemonade mimosa with blood orange purée."
