Signature Cocktail Questions

Mw, on June 15, 2020 at 8:54 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
Hi all!

I have seen a lot of pics of signature cocktails on Pinterest and I think it is such a cute idea! But I have never attended a wedding that did one. We live in the Midwest so majority of weddings we attend are usually open bar, kegs/wine only, or what our area refers to as limited host tab, where whoever is hosting the bar has a set amount of money on the bar and after it runs out it’s a cash bar.
Do you have to offer only these two cocktails if you do go with the signature cocktail method? Or could you just set the signature cocktails as the free drink option and the rest of the liquor as a cash bar? Can someone walk me through how it works? We were planning on buying a few kegs and doing a limited host bar during cocktail hour.

I think you could do signature drinks and then have other options that are free like beer and wine and then anything else they’d have to cover themselves

I think it depends on your venue but sometimes they just offer the open beer and wine and then 2 signature drinks and everything else will cost them.

It will depend on your venue. Ours offered lots of combinations of drinks packages - cash, limited host as you put it or open with a choice of beer/wine, beer/wine+sign drink, everything open etc. We went with a totally open bar and a signature drink. People could have one if they wanted but there were plenty of other drink options. I think it’s common to have an open (or capped tab) for beer/wine and a signature drink. I’d check with your venue on how they’d price it because I assume everywhere is different.

Like the previous posters have said, it depends on what you want to do and what your venue will allow!

I've been to weddings where the signature cocktails are just an extra fun drink that's offered, and at other weddings they are the only mixed drinks at the bar (and your other choices are beer and wine)!

Michigan here. I am going to have a beer keg, a couple options for wine (one dry, one sweet), and a couple specialty drinks for sure. I haven’t decided if I am going to offer other liquors and mixers. If I do, I will list it on the menu. Have you spoken to your bartenders to see what their input is? That’s what I plan on doing to come up with a cohesive bar menu. But our bartenders are family members who love doing weddings.
