Signature cocktail choices

Katie, on March 26, 2021 at 9:41 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 28
Hi everyone,
We are providing the bar for our wedding and need to come up with 2 signature cocktails for wedding guests. For those that are doing this, what did /are you going with for your cocktail choices?

Every crowd is different in what they like and don't like. What does yours prefer?

We only get one, and since FH doesn't drink liquor much, he's letting me choose the signature drink!

I can't decide whether I want to do a fun take on a margarita, Moscow mule, or something wintery with cranberry since it'll be in January!

I'd think of what you and your future spouse like to drink! What are some fun ways you can personalize the drinks? If you have pets, a fav hobby or city, you could find a drink that represents that, or just name the drink after it! FBIL and his wife had 2 sig. drinks named after their cats, which was really sweet!

We def have a liquor drinking crowd. So I think we will go with a vodka and a dark liquor (prob bourbon) for different choices. But am looking for some ideas. Since it will be in July, we were thinking of some kind of vodka lemonade and possibly a Kentucky mule. But I want to make sure both drinks are not super sweet drinks, as were not having a full bar. It’s tough to pick something you think EVERYONE will drink.

My friend had some kind of honey bourbon drink for her wedding that was so good, but they can’t remember exactly what it was...

We have a dog (Piper) and a cat (Buddy) so it would be great to incorporate them in the names. But not sure. Just looking for ideas on drinks that were a hit. It’s a tough choice to find something you think everyone will like since we won’t have a full bar. We will have 2-3 signature drinks, beer and wine. We’re thinking of a light liquor drink (vodka) and a dark (possibly bourbon). The wedding will be in July.

I would suggest choosing a drink you genuinely enjoy and that you consider to be one of your "go to" drinks! Something to take into consideration is how long it takes to make the drink: is it a process that takes 5-10 minutes to make one? Maybe not the best choice, since people will order them throughout the night, and it could be difficult for the bartenders to keep up. Or, if it does take a while to make, you could also look into whether a larger batch of the drink can be made, so that they don't have to spend as much time making each individual one. You could also choose a drink that is "local" for the area! For example, an area known for blackberries and that has a lot of local wineries, you could choose a blackberry wine as your signature drink.

I really like Moscow Mules and they have vodka! I'm not big on bourbon so I'm not much help with that!

For Buddy you could do: Buddy's Boozy Bev.

For Piper: Piper's Pawfect/Perfect Punch (if you have a fruiter drink) or Piper's Pawfect/Perfect Pick!

For incorporating pet names, a adjective can make the bridge between the pet part and the cocktail part. E.g. Piper’s Perfect x, Buddy’s Bridal y. Colors also work (pink, purple, blue, blush, etc) as do particular flavours (peach, peppermint, bramble, banana etc) if they apply to the drink. And of course alphabetical lists of cocktails might help you narrow down what you want.

We're doing something similar to you! We're having two signature drinks and want to name them after our dogs, and in the same mindset to choose one with a clear/light liquor and one dark, while making sure they're refreshing for a (late) summer wedding. I really love alliteration for naming drinks after pets, so maybe something like Piper's Rum Punch or Buddy's Bay Breeze? This article (linked) has the names of cocktails listed alphabetically!

My favorite cocktail is honey whiskey and lemonade - I think it would be really refreshing for a summer wedding!

We were married on Derby Day so we had mint juleps! They were a big hit, and we did just beer and wine besides those as well.

    We're doing a classic margarita and a blueberry-lavender lemonade (non-alcoholic).

Another bourbon/dark liquor based suggestion is an old-fashioned.

Yes, love the idea for an old fashioned, especially being in WI! We are planning to provide this as a special cocktail hour drink to be offered with the other 2 dog cocktail options but only during cocktail hour. It’s just not a drink I think everyone would want to drink all night and don’t want to offer as one of two options for the entire night. Thanks for the suggestions!

I love that! My color is dusty rose and I’m using blush a lot in my decor...maybe we should incorporate a pink lemonade if we go that route! So smart. Thanks!!!
