Side bustles on a mermaid gown? Huh?

ilovefrenchiefries, on August 6, 2014 at 6:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Hi everyone! My first dress fitting is still a few weeks away, but I wanted to go in prepared to ask the seamstress about my bustle options. My gown is fitted down to about mid-thigh, and I'm having a hard time picturing how a bustle would work on this kind of dress. When I purchased the dress, my consultant said that with this specific dress, brides usually have the bustle to one side. But I can't find any pictures on the internet of this! Has anyone else struggled with the bustle on a mermaid or trumpet gown? I'd love any input or to hear about anyone else's experiences! Cheers!

If it helps, here is my dress from the back. The viel-like (cape-like? lol) part will come off after the ceremony, so the back will just be the criss-cross. But there still will be a lot of dress train to put somewhere.

Yup, that's it. My dress had a side bustle. I think it looks a little asymmetrical and very modern.

Thanks! I guess that's pretty similar to my dress. Hmmm.

(Also, I guess I didn't post my dress picture. I'm new here and am still figuring it all out! Technologically challenged, apparently.)

Kahlcara, thanks! It does look very pretty. Did you also consider a more traditional bustle on the back? Or maybe with dresses like this, the side is the only good option.

I don't actually remember if I looked at what it would be like with a back bustle or not, but my dress was ruched (similar to the one Neschi posted pics of), and had a crystal thing on the side like in the 2nd picture, so it just seemed like that was a good place to put it. It also had a bubble hem, so it would have looked really strange bustled at the back.
