Shuttle Service $$$

J, on October 15, 2019 at 1:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Do you think it's worth the splurge to book shuttle service for guests so that a) you can ensure that our guests aren't late to the ceremony and b) you can make sure they get back home safely/responsibly? Or should I just direct them to take Uber (or drive themselves to the venue) and tell them to arrive early?

Uber isn’t readily available in our area. There isn’t enough parking at our venue so we rented 2 vans and hired family friends to do the driving.

We’re renting vans because it’s a destination wedding and I want people to be able to have fun without being concerned about driving.

We did! We paid for two 55 person buses ($1,100 per bus round trip). Our venue was 30 minutes from the hotel in a rural area, with no cell service, so uber wasn't an option. It was SO worth it and I know guests had a lot more fun drinking & everything because they didn't have to drive!

Well , for part A— that’s no guarantee. The last wedding I went to started late BECAUSE of the shuttle service...and wait, so did mine! And...another friend of ours had the same experience 😱— so don’t count that as a guarantee . That doesn’t mean it’s not nice to have though! We found it 100% worthwhile as our wedding was a bit in the middle of nowhere in a dark suburb that many of our guests weren’t familiar with, and ubers aren’t readily available. I feel like circumstances play into this decision . It’s not necessary, but in some cases it is super helpful. I’d consider how easy it is to get to and from venue (distance, ease of directions, ease of roads etc) and your crowd (ours was big drinkers, mostly from out of town , so I wanted to make the experience as seamless as possible for them.

If there's enough parking at the venue and it's not a far drive from the hotels, it's not super necessary, but of course if its in your budget its a great added bonus for your guests! Uber prices can spike if lots of people request cars at the same time, which could happen at the end of your reception if it's large. Our venue has NO parking because it is downtown, so we will be providing a trolley for transport to and from a couple nearby hotels.
