Shuttle from hotel to venue

Brianna, on January 9, 2020 at 3:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Hi all,

Need some advice on shuttle service for the big day...
Our venue is a 5-minute walk from the hotel where we have our room block. It’s all city walking (side walks and street lights) and our wedding is on Memorial Day weekend so hopefully not too cold!
Should I hire a shuttle to take people from the hotel to the venue and back to the hotel at the end of the night or am I just being over-cautious?
As an alternative, I was thinking of ordering umbrellas for the guests in case it rains, which will definitely be cheaper than the shuttle. And might be a cute party favor.
Let me know what you think, thanks!

Also forgot to note that our wedding is in upstate NY, so May is usually 60-70 degrees. Could be 40 on a bad day & 80 on a good one.

If you have a lot of older people in attendance who have trouble walking that distance it might be a good idea to look into transport. One wedding I went to gave the out of towners Uber gift cards in their welcome bags to help with transportation. Depending on how many you would need might be cheaper than renting a shuttle transport.

Didn’t even think of Uber gift cards, what a great idea.

I’ll have to do some cost comparison tonight, thank you!

If you can afford it, I'd hire the shuttle. If I'm wearing heels to a wedding, I'm not walking even if it's 5 minutes haha!

If it’s walkable, I wouldn’t bother, especially if it’s a city type area where cabs or ubers would be readily available for anyone who doesn’t want to walk.

For my brother's wedding we had about a 7 minute walk from the venue to the hotel, so most people just walked. It was fine. Once people have a couple of drinks they won't mind. LOL! But really, I LOVE that Uber gift card idea for just a few people who might need it.

After photos, I walked back to the hotel, had a drink, and changed my shoes so I could dance the night away. I was gone maybe 20 minutes tops and was back to party. And because I'd changed my shoes, walking back to the hotel was a breeze. Others may not have that opportunity so that would be my only concern, tbh.

I once heard of a person in my town who had a party at their house on top of a hill. They had people parking all down the hill and down into a parking area in the foothills where people hike. So they rented an Uber driver for the whole evening - just paid a flat rate for him to drive their guests from the parking lot up to their house and back down again later. Again, it was just like a 2 minute drive each way, so he was driving up and down all night, but it was worth it for them and for him. Some guests tipped him, too, so he really made out. And I think it only cost them a few hundred bucks. Maybe you could find someone who'd be willing to do that for you for the evening? Just drive people back and forth for a flat fee?

If it’s literally only 5 minutes, I would just make it known that. Either on your wedding website or otherwise. Realistically its only a few minutes more than a normal parking lot, and they can always choose to Uber

I personally think it's fine. People can catch a cab if they really don't want to walk. I'd save the money but that's just me.

I think the walk is fine. I would have the number of a cab company handy for any older guests who couldn't take the walk, but after dancing in a hot room all night, a nice 5 minute walk outside would be great (for me, at least!)!
