Shuttle at end of the evening only...

aray, on October 12, 2017 at 9:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We are thinking about providing a shuttle from the reception back to the hotels at the end of the wedding only. Has anybody done this and had it go over successfully? I'm trying to figure out if there's anything we are overlooking here...

We are thinking of doing it this way because the hotels are in an area where there will be plenty of Ubers, taxis to get individuals to the reception, as well as valet parking at the reception if individuals want to drive and leave their vehicles. Our reception venue is not far but in a bit of a more remote area where a wait for an Uber or taxi would be longer or maybe more difficult to secure. Providing the shuttles at the end of the night only would also allow us to to avoid some of the headaches that come with shuttles as far as the ceremony starting late due to the shuttles being late or there not being enough space.

I would do shuttles both ways. Ask people to sign up for the shuttles in advance to avoid the space issue.

What about doing an Uber Event Code there and then shuttles back?

You'd have to provide shuttles both ways, otherwise you'll have guests who have to drive to the reception. They'd either have to leave their cars overnight or skip the shuttle and drive back. Kind of defeats the purpose of the shuttle.

Uber event code for getting to the ceremony is a great idea! -- I had forgotten about that option.

Really my thought with providing shuttle service at the end of the evening is that we will have to have a shuttle for the wedding party to return to the hotels and might as well open that up to guests that would like to use it as well.

As an aside -- our group leaves our vehicles, especially in valet lots all the time, thats why I added that, perhaps its not the same in every group.

I'm with most. Both or not at all.

I'm paying for taxis at the end of the night. I let the taxi company know ahead of time and they will have cars waiting. It is saving me $400. The taxis will prevent drunk driving. To get the cars in the morning, we will carpool.

I'm in the same situation as you. I think the biggest issue will be that transportation companies might have minimum hour requirements to service events. Seems like average requirement in my area is 3-5 hours.

Yes most of the companies have a minimum but our plan is to just pay the minimum hourly amount. With the vendors we’ve spoken to the minimum hourly is not much more then the one-way transfer fee. I hadn’t thought about taxis, I will look into that as well.

We are thinking of Uber events at the beginning of the night because it allows people to leave one their schedule instead of trying to make a shuttle bus schedule. We would likely have people waiting at the ceremony site for 30-45 minutes if we do a shuttle at the beginning which would aggravate me as a guest.

    Thanks for everyone’s input.
