Shrimp and grits?

Taylor , on December 19, 2018 at 10:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
Anyone else serving shrimps and grits as part as their dinner? If so, what else are you serving with it?

FH and I would like to have shrimp and grits on the menu but we aren’t really sure what else to pick to go with it. And Our caterers have so many different options that it’s giving us a headsche. It probably doesn’t help that we’re a tad indecisive. 😂

Food is really important, I want to look forward to eating the food at my reception and I also want our guest to enjoy it as well so I want to make the right decision.

I would make sure to have another option for shellfish allergies! A chicken or beef option is usually pretty safe.

Oh no definitely another meat. The shrimp and grits wouldn’t be the main entree. I guess I was asking as far of the theme. Like bbq or southern menu.

Bbq or southern would be a great theme. It would also go well with a lot of food choices. I think fried chicken, cajun chicken or a herb roasted chicken, smoked pork or smoked brisket(more expensive than most meats but depending on your caterer can be reasonable). If you go for chicken I recommend boneless breasts. I grew up on fried chicken with the bone and I feel like there is more of it that gets eat when its off the bone plus its just easier to eat when your all dressed up. When I think of shrimp and grits it makes me think of Jambalaya which I love. It would go well with the shrimp and grits. I think biscuits or cornbread would go well as a bread especially if the cornbread is somewhat sweet and served with good butter. For sides green beans, corn either hominy or cut off,mac n cheese, mashed potatoes or baked or both, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, coleslaw, and some sort of salad either garden with ranch dressing or caesar. If your doing appetizers before the meal stuffed mushrooms are really good as are stuffed tomatoes. I think I would theme the food to go with the region especially since your venue is in Georgia which I saw on your profile. If you like peaches I suggest peach cobbler as a dessert or some peach related dessert although fresh peaches will be out of season. If you do Bbq I suggest if it isn't dry Bbq that you have two different types of sauce to choose from a hot and a mild.

Hi Taylor! We are planning a southern/cajun menu for our wedding. We are definitely having mini shrimp and grits cakes as a passed hors d'oeuvre. As for the rest of the menu we're thinking: blackened catfish, bourbon chicken, prime rib carving station, mac and cheese bar, southern-style green beans, cornbread, garden salad, and either jambalaya or etouffee.

For our late night snacks we're thinking mini chicken and waffles and beignets.

Yummy! We aren't but I'd love to have that as a guest! Could you do other southern food too? Maybe fried chicken, or gumbo? I'd include some kind of greens too.

Yes, we are having a brunch for dinner theme and since we are in the south could not do it without shrimp and grits. We are also having an omelette station, london broil, red bliss potatoes with onions and peppers, and a fancy salad.

I am! We are doing brunch though. So we are having shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, an omelette station, and caramel pecan french toast.
