Shower with Zola registry?

Allie, on November 23, 2016 at 8:55 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

My Mom and FMIL are hosting a shower for me in two weeks. We just realized that with the Zola registry, no one can have a gift sent to themselves to bring to the shower. Has anyone been in this situation before or have any ideas for what we can do?

One idea was to ship all of the Zola gifts to my Mom's house so they're still a surprise, and I could open the shipping packaging as if it's wrapping paper. Issue here is Zola has an option for gift-givers to release the gift at a future date and some of my guests did that, so I can't send them yet.

I now see why people register at more than one place - hindsight is 20/20! Unfortunately, I'm stuck with one registry and two weeks to find the best solution.

You could split your registry and do a small one at BBB. I started with Zola and realize BBB had lots of the same things and put about half there so I could have a place for folks who wanted to go buy something in person vs online.

I thought about that, but the shower is in two weeks. I think we discovered this issue too late to make a new registry. Invitations went out, gifts have been purchased. I'm really looking for what we can do now with Zola since this situation is already set.

I think you could still do a BB&B registry. I know lots of people that want until the last second to go pick up gifts, especially since BB&B wraps gifts for you. I've definitely stopped on the way to a shower before

If you considered a new registry, maybe send out a follow up/reminder e-vite a week out with registry information on it? If it's out of the question though I'd say your idea is probably your best bet and maybe make gift opening less of the focus and instead just mingle/play games/eat/etc and make that a smaller part of the day.

They should be able to ship it to themselves if it's actually from Zola and not a link to another page.

    Hi Allie!

I'm Melissa, Zola's Community Manager - here to (hopefully!) save the day.

Your guests have the option to ship gift to themselves at checkout, or they can send directly to you (where the shipping is delayed and you ship it directly). It sounds like they chose the latter to have it go directly to you, but also made it a surprise gift, so you don't even have the option to ship it.

Here's where I come in - I can definitely release those surprise gifts for you so we can start processing the shipments. For any that may not make it in time, we can also create vouchers for you, so you'll at least have the photo of the gift at your shower (I did that for my shower).

Shoot me an email to *******@****.*** and we can take it from there. I want to make this as stress free as possible for you! Talk soon.

    Cheers,

    Melissa
