I love semi-naked wedding cakes too!!! I wanted one for our wedding but my friend/cake baker said it wouldn't work for our cake because we had two flavors--red velvet and white almond cake (with raspberry filling). She said having two different flavors with a semi-naked icing would not look good in photos. Our cake ended up looking like the third photo you posted. Very simple white cake with Swiss meringue. My friend added some dark green to incorporate our wedding motif. My florist provided white roses and eucalyptus and we got our toppers from Etsy.

The only thing about semi-naked cakes I do feel that it is best for a more rustic theme plus it is unfortunate that I guess you can't use it with certain fillings and flavors. I have read that it seems to go best with a lighter color cake which of course I think we would both want chocolate. I'm kind of a little bit more partial to the white buttercream with the swirl effect. Maybe even do an ombre or some buttercream roses and the colors that kind of match with his suit is going to wear and one of the colors and I'll have in my bouquet.

Swirls and buttercream roses sound really nice! I would've done a more detailed and elaborate cake but we had a small budget so we had to do everything simple. lol Do come back here and show us the cake you end up with.

I did a semi naked cake and it was awesome! The cake was snickerdoodle and it tasted amazing!

That is similar to what I want to do with a wedding cake topper that is a silhouette with our dog and a football reference. Did you feel it did not have a ton of frosting like the average cake? We are more cake people so I considered a semi naked cake. Thoughts?

It didn't have a lot of frosting at all like the average cake, which is what we like. I don't really like frosting even though this frosting was really good, it was snickerdoodle flavor as well. We are more cake people too and the semi naked cake was perfect for us!

our cake

We did something completely unique. We did books. We're both bookworms and books helped us stay connected while my then fiance was deployed for a year overseas. We designed the look ourselves with some images online and used our favorite genres.

This is the exact cake we want. A Tiramisu because it is our dessert we always get its our favorite. I know not everyone likes tiramisù but this is the one thing I just don’t care if no one likes. we’re also having passed desserts in addition like frozen chocolate covered bananas, and choc covered strawberries.
